We're going to turn to the severe weather at home. Ginger zee standing by. But first a massive wildfire. You can see behind me, the fire. ABC's Brandi Hitt on the west coast tonight. Reporter: Engulfed in flames. Homes gone in minutes. We thought we had it safe last night, but it's gone. Hard to watch. Reporter: The fires, barreling through central Washington, have exploded 15 times larger today than they were 24 hours ago. Burning some 100 homes near the town of pateros. And forcing more than 1,500 evacuations, including hospital patients. Right now, they're just stopping the fire from spreading any farther down the road. Reporter: It's just one of 20 large uncontained wildfires. Families chased out by the flames, bringing only what they can carry. It really looked like a cauldron of hell. You could see flames everywhere you looked. Reporter: Drivers blinded by smoke. Conditions are so extreme, firefighters in the northwest are asking for help from seven other states, including California, which has already been stretched thin this fire
