Andrea Canning is an ABC News correspondent based in New York. She covers stories across the nation for "Good Morning America," "Nightline," "World News With Diane Sawyer, "20/20," "World News Saturday and Sunday" and ABC's overnight and early morning broadcasts, "World News Now" and "America This Morning."

Canning travels the country covering stories that span the serious to the playful. Her recent interview with Charlie Sheen made national headlines and garnered high ratings for a "Special Edition of 20/20." She also has recently covered a diverse set of stories, ranging from the Clark Rockefeller trial in Boston to an interview with the last surviving Munchkin from "The Wizard of Oz" after they received a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.

Canning joined ABC News in 2004, reporting from the nation's capital for ABC's affiliate news service, NewsOne. There she covered the White House, Congress, the Supreme Court and the war in Iraq. She also traveled to breaking news events across the country, including the Gulf Coast during Hurricane Katrina.

Prior to joining ABC News, Canning worked for WCPO-TV, the ABC affiliate in Cincinnati, as a reporter and co-anchor of the evening newscast. From 1999-2001, she covered a wide range of issues for WPTV, the NBC affiliate, in West Palm Beach, Fla., including the anthrax scare at the National Enquirer buildings, the path of the 9/11 terrorists, Elian Gonzales, several hurricanes and the contested 2000 presidential election.

From 1997-99, Canning worked for CKVR Television in Barrie, Ontario, as a reporter and anchor. Prior to that, from 1996-97, she was an assignment editor and field producer for the television show "Extra."

Canning graduated from the University of Western Ontario in London and studied radio and television arts at Ryerson Polytechnic University in Toronto. She plays competitive tennis and has downhill ski-raced with the Canadian National Ski Academy. She was born in Blue Mountain, Ontario, Canada.

Canning is married to Maj. George Anthony Bancroft II, an F-18 fighter pilot with the U.S. Marine Corps. They have a daughter, Anna Katherine Bancroft.
