Karen Travers joined ABC News in 2000 and is currently a Washington-based correspondent for ABC NewsOne, the network's affiliate news service. NewsOne provides live and packaged news reports for 200 ABC affiliates around the country, as well as more than 30 domestic and international clients, including BBC, NHK, ARD/Germany and CTV Canada.

Since joining ABC News, Travers has extensively covered Washington and national politics, including two presidential elections and the Obama and Bush Administrations. Most recently she was the digital reporter covering the Obama White House, traveling across the United States and to nearly 20 foreign countries with the president. In that role, she was a regular on-air contributor to ABC's "World News Now," "America This Morning," and ABC NewsNow, the network's broadband entity, and filed for ABCNews.com.

Travers also traveled as a producer on both of President Obama's secret trips to Afghanistan in 2010.

Travers served as the deputy political director for ABC News' Election 2008 coverage, reporting for all shows and platforms, and taking the lead for the network's reporting on the Democratic and Republican delegate processes. In her role in the political unit, Travers covered several key battleground states and reported from presidential debates and both the Democratic and Republican conventions. She was part of the ABC News team that received an Emmy Award for its coverage of President Obama's inauguration.

From December 2004 through June 2007, before joining ABC News' political unit, Travers worked as a White House producer, traveling with President Bush across the nation and to over 30 foreign countries. At the White House, she was responsible for ABC News' editorial coverage and planning for events, speeches and breaking news. During this time, Travers also traveled to Iraq and Bahrain on a military embed and produced exclusive reports onboard the USS Eisenhower in the North Arabian Sea. She also spent a month as a producer in ABC News' Baghdad bureau.

Before the White House assignment, Travers covered the Bush-Cheney 2004 campaign as a reporter and was a researcher for Ted Koppel at "Nightline."

A native of Blue Bell, Pa., Travers graduated in 2000 with a degree in American government from Georgetown University, where she served as editor in chief of The Hoya. She earned a master's degree in liberal studies from Georgetown in 2003. Travers lives in Washington, D.C. with her husband, John Anderson.
