Suze Orman, GMA and YOUR Job Search
My new best friend (a girl's allowed to dream, right?) Suze Orman probably doesn’t really want to replace Diane Sawyer on ABC’s Good Morning America. But she’s been using social media to have a whole lot of fun “lobbying” for the job anyway. (Click here to check out the short video she and I made together.)
In the process she has probably gotten more than a few observers thinking, “Hey, why not Suze?”
Never underestimate the power of self-promotion when it comes to your career. When looking to land your next job, think about campaigning for it, much as a candidate does for public office.
Reach out to internal referrals, who can invaluable in providing key information about what kind of positions are being filled and who's doing the hiring.
Solicit feedback from clients and customers of the company you’re targeting. They’re often in a position to know the lay of the land.
Read industry coverage of the company you’re interested in joining and get yourself noticed by responding with a letter that shows you know your stuff.
The point is: get yourself noticed by the people who matter, so that when they’re ready to fill that next position, they think “why not” you?
