I just realized CHASE is charging us $300 a year($25 a month) for a checking acount. We need to retain a $15,000 balance in order for it to be free. $15,000!!!!!!! GET REAL. We are now moving to a credit union!!!!

Does ABC want to be impartial? I don't get why you keep ignoring mine and other viewers comments about the benefits of joining a credit union. It's plain and simple, customers shouldn't even bother signing a petition that will fall in deaf ears....BANKS are all for the bottom line. Consumers shouldn't walk but RUN to their closest credit union and hit the banks where it hurts ----their deep pockets.

I challenge ABC news to do a segment on credit unions so that consumers will be informed and know they have more options. Credit Unions do not spend money on advertising as the big banks do and therefore are not well known and often misunderstood.

Why doesnt' ABC the full truth? The truth is the Barney/Dodd bill inposed more fee's on banks to try to generate more govt. fund, and the banks have no reply but to pass it on to the consumers. That's what happens when govt. tries to run the economy..........

Why is it your local Bank, BB&T and other Banks can survive and thrive without gouging folks? Perhaps Greed is the motivating factor?

Not too far back, citi wanted $60/yr to have a cc, so I cancelled but their cust svc were nice and helpful. Chase is ok but their statements came not giving me much lead time to send in a payment, and their TOS forget wading thru all that. But credit unions aren't the be all end all. I used to have to pay for checks but checking was free. I don't order many any more, need to check if there's a charge. If I overdraw my auto savings which cover overdrafts, a fee. If I lose my debit card, $22 hot card fee. If I want to stop pay on a check $22. Don't know what they charge for a cancelled check I use my debit card a lot, it's free except when I use somebody else's ATM which I don't. I look to eventually be charged for not going paperless. I decided paperless provides less of an unbroken and reliable audit trail going way back like my checks do but not the big banks, usually about 7 yrs, that I don't want to lose that. Shop around carefully for a credit union, mine has its own insurance, not FDIC. Interest is abysmal everywhere, but some kind of accts better than others.

ABC News should FOCUS on reporting on the many benefits of CREDIT UNIONS! It's amazing how many people I know personally that aren't familiar with credit unions. Many I've spoken to in the past believe funds on deposit don't have the FDIC equivalent protection! Most believe you have to be a member of a company, etc. to join. IF people were to LEAVE ALL BANKS EN-MASSE, the banks would start to realize people won't tolerate all their crazy fees any longer. The only business I have conducted with banks since 1983 are for mortgages, and that is only because I've secured the lowest rates possible of any bank or credit union. The total fees I have paid since 1983 for all 'banking' benefits/transactions add up to $0!
