Dow Sinks, But Not Enough to Offset October’s Gains

After today’s close of the stock markets, the Dow Jones industrial average is up 1041.63 points this month, or 9.54 percent at 11955.01.

The Dow has hit a number of accolades in October, countering the superstition of the “October Curse.”

This month’s records include:

  • Third biggest monthly percentage gain in the Dow’s 115 year history
  • This month’s gain snaps a string of five month losses
  • Largest monthly points gain in its history
  • Largest monthly percentage gain since October 2002
  • Best October points performance in its history
  • Best October since 2002
