While I certainly agree that the whole experience was rude, unprofessional, and inexcusable, so is her response. Being offered a $100 gift card and apologies seems perfectly reasonable on their part. Stirring up bad publicity for radio shack on the net seems reasonable on her part. Hiring a lawyer does not seem reasonable. Obviously, she immediately though of suing since she got a lawyer (she has nothing to fear from them as an excuse). The mentality of wanting to sue over something like this (i.e. insulted = free meal ticket) kinda proves she is what they described her as. ... Just saying.

Being insulted sucks, but my response would be hurt feelings and outrage ... not "how much money can I get from this?" That's ghetto!

She had the right to ask for a refund. It's likely they weren't nice to her to begin with and the nickel was just the icing on the cake. Either way, some people are very frugal and get upset even if their change is 1 penny off. They have a right to. It's their money!

I work with the public and it takes all kinds to make this world go around. i don't care what you look like how many tattoos you have what your sexual orientation is i would never treat someone with disrespect the way the clerk and the manager did both should be fired .if you have a nasty comment about a customer keep it to yourself

i think they should not fire the employee. radiosahck does sell over price items. a battery that cost 5.00 is really worth 0.50 . they sometimes sell used items. customers are also rude. i dont care if its a customer if they disrespect me i would answer back.

Apparently, by reading through all of these comments, I have decided that over 95% of you have never worked in any sort of service industry. I have worked as a server throughout high school and college and you cannot BELIEVE how incredibly rude and completely ridiculous customer's can act. I have stories upon stories of bad-mannered, impolite and down right mean customer's that believe they are a better human being. Social science researches need to investigate people's attitudes towards hired help. I am a college-educated woman with higher dreams than most of my customer's yet they treat me as though I deserve nothing more than the 2 dollar tip they are leaving me. Honestly, maybe this woman was beyond rude to the person behind the register. Who knows how she acted? I've been treated so badly, you wouldn't even believe it. It doesn't make it right for the sales person to write these things about her, but depending how she treated him, that's not right either.

so, she doesn't want to spend 5 freakin' pennies on a bag (yeah, principles, whatever),

BUT

she spends hundreds of dollars (and more) and lots of time and effort in order to get a lawyer to try and get some $ from Radioshack's corporate office ... because she's obviously incapable of basic human interaction? Regardless of what the employees did (sure, they were stupid and deserve what's coming to them), it's still really hard for me to believe that this would never have happened/became a national news story if only ... she had paid the damn nickel. like, really now?

people like this, with a sense of entitlement in this sue-happy country of ours ... are part of the problem and contribute to bogged down legal systems that ultimately end up wasting lots of time and money for many people/businesses.

seriously, people EVERYWHERE, on BOTH ENDS (customers/employees) just need to GET OVER THEMSELVES.

She was from a neighboring town and felt she was specifically being targeted since the $.05 cent charge wasn't displayed anywhere. Instead of explaining the city fee to her, they chose to yell and demean her. Also, she was returning her purchases and planned to never again shop at Radio Shack. Instead of respecting her wishes, they tried to force her to take her refund in the form of a Shack gift card. THAT'S why she got a lawyer.

She could tell from the saleseperson's 'body language' that he was not happy....yeah, and your hands on hips + head going east/west wasn't a giveaway either.
Glad I don't live in that craphole anymore.
