OONOGIL: Yes, vocational training in high school is important and already available in many schools. We need to keep improving that. However, high school students need to get much more serious about getting that training, rather than primarily being concerned with sports, dating, and prom.I do not believe that "the majority of Americans do not have access to the training required." Community colleges fill an important role in most communities, training many people of all ages for available jobs, while charging about 1/3 the tuition of 4-yr schools. Of course, students who are not serious, who miss class and barely pass with a low GPA, will still find themselves being passed over by companies who prefer to hire those with a better work ethic. These days a C-average won't get you as far as it used to with so many people competing for jobs.

"Since the 2008 recession “virtually all of the job loss has been for people who had a high school diploma or less,” says Jamie Merisotis." That's an outright lie. In Feb 2009 my company began the process of laying off nearly 8,000 people. We are talking upper management, software engineers, technical ops and support staff etc., NOT uneducated people. We were one of many corporations that have been hit hard the past 4 years. Just incenses me when the Liberal media throws out this crap.

Our education system prepares the student for liberal arts college or “do you want fries with that?” We need to prepare the next generation for jobs to support themselves and rebuild our country. Someone has to build those assembly line robots and someone has to maintain them but Americans have to find training as welders, electricians and other trades after they leave public schools. That training is expensive and often difficult to find. The majority of Americans do not have access to the training required to fill the majority of jobs available and skills we need to rebuild our country.
