Kate Middleton’s $170 Shopping Spree

Kate Middleton might wear couture because she’s the Duchess of Cambridge, but she really seems to be a retail girl at heart.

According to People.com, Middleton was spotted shopping at her local Topshop on Kensington High Street Monday night (Kensington Palace is right around the corner).

“She was low-key and casual,” a Topshop staffer told People. “She seemed so normal.”

After reportedly browsing the store for a half hour and then patiently waiting in line, she made $170 worth of purchases — including a teal polka-dot skirt (available only in the U.K.), a velvet trim boucle jacket and a pair of gold-effect leaf earrings. But as with all affordable attire the princess wears, Topshop.com is currently sold out of the skirt and jacket (we couldn’t find the earrings for sale on the store’s site).

Middleton also caused a fashion frenzy last May when she was photographed with President Obama and the First Lady while wearing a $340 camel-colored dress from the Reiss. As soon as the photo started making the rounds, the Reiss site was overwhelmed with requests and the dress quickly sold out. Hey, if you can’t be a princess, you might as well dress like one.
