Sofia Vergara’s Emmy Inspiration: Barbie

Sofia Vergara's stylist dishes on her Emmy look.

Who inspired Sofia Vergara’s stunning Emmy Awards show look?

Barbie. Yes, the small screen siren who returns tonight on “Modern Family” has the iconic doll to thank for her stunning presence Sunday night.

“I kind of took inspiration from Barbie,” said Jen Atkin, Vergara’s hairstylist who spent an hour and a half on Vergara’s hair before Sunday’s ceremony. “Barbie in the ’50s. Brushed out hair with the ends curled under and a side part.”

Vergara owned the red carpet in a vermilion Vera Wang gown that showcased her signature curves. Atkin deliberately dialed down Vergara’s hair because of her outfit choice.

“We had the dress about a week before and we were kind of playing with the idea of putting up her hair and then she decided to wear Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, those gorgoeous emerarld earrings,” Atkin said. “Once I saw that, I thougtht we needed to do something really classic and chic.”

Atkin applied a volumizing lotion at Vergara’s roots, blew out her hair straight then set it with velcro rollers. After misting the rollers with a light hairspray, she removed them, brushed out Vergara’s hair with a Mason Pearson brush and applied a dollop of Kesari oil to make her tresses shine.

As if her perpetual smile on Emmy night didn’t make it clear enough, Vergara voiced her approval for the final product on ABC’s “Good Morning America” today.

“It’s been one of my favorite looks that I have worn,” she said.
