J. Crew President Jenna Lyons Reportedly in Midst of Ugly Divorce

J. Crew president Jenna Lyons and her husband are reportedly divorcing.
You may not know Jenna Lyons by name, but you probably know her style. As the president and creative director of J. Crew, she’s influenced the classically chic looks of consumers from the average mall goer to Michelle Obama.
Now her critics have something else to crow about: The New York Post reported Tuesday that Lyons, 43, is in the midst of a messy divorce from her husband of nine years, artist Vincent Mazeau. And according to the Post, since their summer split, Lyons has gotten romantically involved with another woman who works in the fashion industry.
A representative from J. Crew declined to comment on Lyons’ personal life.
It’s likely Lyons never envisioned garnering this much interest. The six-foot-five brunette has become an icon for fashion lovers in the past year, in part because of an “Oprah” segment on her personal closet. But in an interview with New York Magazine published in August, Lyons questioned her influence.
“My goal is not to be a tastemaker,” she said. “It has never been that. I don’t consider myself that at all. The idea that you can make taste or influence someone’s taste is a very precarious and overly presumptuous concept.” She added, “Hubris is not so cute.”

You may not know Jenna Lyons by name, but you probably know her style. As the president and creative director of J. Crew, she’s influenced the classically chic looks of consumers from the average mall goer to Michelle Obama.
She also painted her 5-year-old son’s toenails pink earlier this year and upset a lot of conservative commenters.
Now her critics have something else to crow about: The New York Post reported Tuesday that Lyons, 43, is in the midst of a messy divorce from her husband of nine years, artist Vincent Mazeau. It’s not the first time someone left his or her spouse for someone of the opposite sex, so what part of this is newsworthy?
As far as Lyons painting her son’s toenails pink, her son will either grow out of it…or he won’t. Either way, it’s fine, and is no one else’s beeswax.

That mug! Ugh! Is anybody surprised she’s a lesbian?

Why is painting toenails an issue? Why on earth would anybody (including the “I don’t want government interfering in my life, but I want it to controll what is going on in your bedroom” group) worry about putting color on toenails — if I (a hetro-sexual father of 3) thinks its fun when my wife paints my toenails, on what planet does that hurt anyone? What people fail to understand is that many of our norms are not for practical reasons, but are installed to prevent individualism and creativity.. Would I paint my grandsons toes –if he asked me to – YES I would rather do that then scold him for some rule that makes no sence and has no rational reason for its existence.

Slow day ABC? Why is this on the front page..better yet why is this news at all. Who cares, it’s her personal life she can do with it what she wants.

Never heard of her before but wow 6’5.

Her husband should drop to his knees and thank God for the blessing.

Why the question mark after the title? Does ABC take issue with this?

Christine at 11:52 — “What part of this is newsworthy?” When I read the story I thought “Dah Dee Dah Deh Duh-Duuhhhh” (the Entertainment Tonight theme). That answers the question. Fluff sells.

Why is this on the news? People are losing jobs across the country and losing homes!!! Who cares who she is dating!

Good for her. We wish her the best of luck.

Fuzzy: “Why the question mark after the title? Does ABC take issue with this?”…I’ve been wondering about this misuse of punctuation myself, for quite some time, and am glad to see that I’m not alone. Other news sites are doing the exact same thing, and I’m curious about how this trend got started. Since this article’s subject matter is sorta trifling, just wondering if anyone out there has any insight on how what should be a statement ends up as a question. (note the absence of question mark)

If those of you posting lame comments about Lyons’s appearance would look past her clunky glasses, you would see that she’s actually quite attractive — and I’m straight, so no jumping to conclusions, please.

The reason for the question mark on the homepage headline is that the issue of whether another woman is involved has not been verified, and the headline is asking whether Lyons did in fact leave her husband for a woman. They are finding a way to spread a rumor without having to claim they in fact know what they are talking about.

He’s on the winning side of this exchange. If she is that stupid and narcissistic, he should be screaming “freedom” and build a new life with a real woman.

Good luck and may you find true love Jenna. As for the person who said her hubby can now find a “Real” woman – you have no clue!

Why is this news worthy?
Jan Wenner, of Rolling Stone, among others have left their spouse for a same sex new partner.
This indicates underlying bias on the part of the writer.

Still, they can spread a rumor just as effectively, by adding “Did” to “J Crew president dump(s) husband for woman?”, and at least readers would know that the online news writers actually possess degrees in English and/or Journalism.

Ya know… I don’t get “grown” people, who should know better, get off calling another person names. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. She looks okay to me. But can you imagine how much this woman might have been bullyed during her life simply because of her height? The bullying continues with some of you saying that the husband should be grateful. Look at your own lives before attacking someone else. This “ugly” “amazon” etc woman has done quite well for herself and is probably much better off than many of you.

I think the only reason that this is news worthy is that she’s a fake. Who cares If she’s a lesbian. But she’s built her entire career around an image that doesn’t exist. And in doing so has hurt innocent people along the way. NYC and the creative industry is a very small world. This is not the first time I’ve heard questionable things about Ms lyons.

“six-foot-five” Was that a typo? Holy cow that woman(?) is tall!
Posted by: Ivan&Al | October 26, 2011, 9:43 pm 9:43 pm
A) this is entertainment fluff that has no business on ABC, unless of course, you’ve given up appearing like a reputable news source. B) She is 6 feet tall, NOT 6’5. Does anyone actually do research anymore? C) Her personal life, however messy, has no bearing on J.Crew.

Sounds like somebody’s personal life, and nobody’s business.

It seems very telling that the men have the most crude comments on here. Sexuality of women always makes them uncomfortable on the surface, while it is something they all seem to think about and want to see in movies. The comments on her height probably mean that you are jealous of that genetic trait, too. Being tall is not a precursor for being gay. It IS her personal life, so it should be nobody’s business who she is with and we don’t know if her husband was a total waste of space in her life…she’s the successful one, after all.
