Kanye West Launches Women’s Collection at Paris Fashion Week

Rapper and music producer Kanye West launched his women’s fashion collection Saturday in Paris with a late-night fashion show filled with sleek silhouettes and dramatic lines.

Actress Lindsay Lohan, R&B singer Ciara, designers Joseph Altuzarra, Alexander Wang and Olivier Theyskens, and celebrity designers Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen attended the event, which was held in a high school in southern Paris.

The line, called KW by Kanye West, disspelled skepticism that West’s collection would be another example of a celebrity jumping into fashion and failing.

“The biggest conversation I hope I can end tonight is whole ‘celebrity designer’ thing,” he said to reporters after the show, according to the AP. “That’s the biggest hurdle when you want to get amazing people to work for you.”

The surprisingly sophisticated line featured plunging necklines, leather, crocodile skin and fur.

Neutral colors such as white, beige and black were used frequently throughout the collection.

“He did a great job,” said Ciara, according to The Associated Press. “I walked away from this show feeling like I would love to wear this line. There is so much in it that’s right up my alley.

“Especially since for me, it’s so cool to see someone come from our music world and do something like this. It’s really hard,” she added.

West kept his appearance simple, wearing a white t-shirt and jeans.

After the show, the music star threw a party at the new Paris hot spot Club Silencio.

“Thank you for anybody that didn’t believe, because they motivated us to break our boundaries,” he said, launching into an obscenity-filled rant over the microphone.

“This is my first collection. Please be easy. Please give me a chance to grow,” West said.  “… I thank anybody who came to this party, everybody who supported, everybody who believed, because people thought it was a joke, and maybe people still do, but I can only grow from this point.”
