Christina Perri Turns Star with ‘Twilight’

Christina Perri.

Christina Perri’s career got a huge boost when her song “Jar of Hearts” was featured in Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance.”  Now, it’s getting a second wind — another song of hers is featured in the new movie ”Twilight: Breaking Dawn — Part 1,” out Friday.

Perri, a devoted Twi-Hard, is thrilled to be a part of the film, and to have her song, “A Thousand Years,” be the soundtrack’s second single.  She told ABC News Radio, “Being associated with ’Twilight’ is just such a blessing and it’s such an honor, and the soundtracks themselves are just so cool … I just feel really awesome to be on them, and smack in the middle of all the other artists.”

Those artists include Bruno Mars, whose ”Twilight” song “It Will Rain” is already a hit.

She’s also stoked that the song’s exposure in the movie will bring her a whole new audience. “I’d say that a lot of my demographic are young girls, so I think that some of them already knew who I was,” she said. “But I can’t even fathom the spread now of people that get to hear my music.  It’s awesome!”

The ”Twilight” folks invited Perri to write a tune for the movie. She got a private screening, which she said she sobbed all the way through, then went home and wrote “A Thousand Years.”  She added, “I submitted it and I didn’t hear anything for a little while, and then it was like, ‘Yes. We pick you, and have the single, and you make a music video, and you go on tour!’  It was just one thing after the next.  And, so I feel very lucky.”

Next up for Perri, aside from promoting the movie and the single: An appearance on “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest.”
