I just think it’s funny because ABC has hired this 11 year to play the role in the show. So why isn’t that considered a violation of the law!

I was in this situation a few years back. I was visiting a small gift shop with my mother a few years ago, and noticed that there were several children working in the store, some looked as young as 5 or 6. I overheard the store owner scolding children in the back room very harshly about not getting enough work done. I didn’t say anything while in the store, but I immediately called Child Protective Services when I got home. There are no longer children working in that shop.

I am so disappointed at how this segment started. Newt Gingrich was not talking about under age kids working like this. Why do you politicize these segments? What do I do when I see this kind of spin… I change the channel.

As far as employing child actors goes, they are unionized, regulated and very much protected. US federal law states “specifically exempted minors working the Entertainment Business from all provisions of the Child Labor Laws.” Any regulation of child actors is governed by disparate state law. With that said, it was pretty disgusting seeing how few patrons of the store took charge of the situation.

What about kids that go through this and their parents are their boss? I was “employed” by my parents to run the kitchen in their bar/restaurant. My parents didn’t pay me one cent, I put in 40-50 hours a week on top of going to high school, and I was lucky to get 3 hours of sleep a night. There are loopholes in the laws in many states that leave children vulnerable if they work for their parents.

There would a manager profusely bleeding and in convulsions if I witnessed that. Bully’s come in all ages shapes and sizes. A scumbag like him and a store that hired a Child… I would contact the state after perhaps a clean up in isle 3.
