'Amazing Spider-Man' Trailer Debuts Online

Marvel / Columbia Pictures

The much-anticipated trailer for "The Amazing Spider-Man" hit the web - pun intended - on Tuesday.

The two-and-a-half-minute clip bills the movie as "the untold story" of Spider-Man, portrayed by "The Social Network" actor Andrew Garfield.

Much like the 2002 "Spider-Man" film that starred Tobey Maguire as the Marvel superhero, "The Amazing Spider-Man" explores how Peter Parker became a web-slinger - though the events that lead up to Parker's transformation are different this time around.

The trailer touches upon Spider-Man/Parker's relationships with his parents; his love interest Gwen Stacy, portrayed by Emma Stone; and Gwen's father, a police officer played by Denis Leary who doesn't take kindly to Spidey's crime-fighting efforts. We're also introduced to Rhys Ifans' villainous Lizard.

"The Amazing Spider-Man" opens July 3.
