'Glee' Honors Whitney Houston with Song and Words

There was a tragically well-timed tribute to the late Whitney Houston on Tuesday's episode of " Glee" on Fox. There was love - and not a little hormonal confusion - in the air, for the Valentine's Day special entitled "Heart."

Following the shocking news of the death of Houston, "Glee" cast member Amber Riley had stated in a pre-Grammys red carpet interview with E! that, coincidentally, a Whitney song was scheduled for inclusion in this week's show, which had been taped last month. There was further speculation that other tributes to the late diva might be included.

On Tuesday's show, Amber's character, Mercedes Jones, sang an almost note-for-note version of Whitney's signature song, "I Will Always Love You." The big ballad served to illustrate Mercedes' sadness at breaking up with Shane, played by LaMarcus Tinker, on whom she cheated in a love triangle with Sam, played by Chord Overstreet.

Mercedes was shown at times singing the song wearing a T-shirt with the words "No1 Amore" on it, with a fantasy cut away to her wearing a diva-style red gown.

The episode, which featured some of the "world's greatest love songs," closed with a black screen and caption that read "Whitney Houston, 1963-2012, We Will Always Love You."
