Madonna's Stalker Arrested, Taken Back to Mental Hospital

A stalker who had targeted Madonna and Halle Berry has been caught, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Authorities released a statement today saying that Robert Dewey Hoskins was arrested at 9 a.m. this morning not far from the L.A.-area mental hospital he walked away from last week. He is being transported back to the facility.

Hoskins was convicted of threatening to kill Madonna in 1996. Police have described the 54-year-old man as "highly psychotic" and extremely violent.

Hoskins served a 10-year prison sentence for stalking and threatening the Material Girl after being convicted by a jury in 1996. She testified against the man, who was shot by her personal security after he jumped the fence of her Hollywood Hills home.

The LAPD said today that Hoskins had been stalking Halle Berry over the past week. TMZ reported that the Oscar winning actress was so fearful of Hoskins that she asked a judge to give her permission to move to France with her daughter Nahla. (Berry is embroiled in a bitter custody battle with Gabriel Aubry, the father of her child.)
