god guys you are being stupid its best of show for dogs not a beauty pageant. its about also being unique and obviously he did something in the show he didnt just walk. besides are u really mad they are dogs, theres no cash prize, and last point ITS A DOG

I’m sooo glad that something other than a Poodle won for a change. I have a Pekingnese and they are wonderful little dogs. However, if you are lazy, broke, or just plain mean, don’t get a Pekingnese. They are expensive to take care of and they won’t fetch things for you or even come to you if you ask them. They have a mind of their own. If you love them and care for them properly then they will love you back. I love my little Pekingnese like I love my very own children and we are both very happy together. Only a loving person should own a Pekingnese. Peeks were bred for a single purpose and that is to be a loved companion to someone who appreciates them.

The judge has to look at how the dog represents the breed standard. I have owned two pekes and they do not represent this standard at all. My pekes look like the pekes of 100 years ago. Less hair taller and with longer legs. They are great friends. They are great security they will alert u to danger. I do agree that the breed needs to step back and look at what they have done to such a fine animal

I think you all need to get a life. The Pik is a beautiful dog and your choice as far as Best in Show doesn’t matter. If you want to be a judge then see what you can do to be a judge, otherwise keep your opinions to yourself.

I wait every year for this show and I have watched it for more years than I care to mention.
1. I cnnot recall ANY judge kissing the winner’s owner.
2. When she had Malachi on the table she actually carressed him instead of judged him.It was so obvious that I commented ‘There’s your winner’. My family laughed but I was proven right. Unfortunately…Very sad and not fair to your audience as well.
Sure he is a nice peke; but in no way did he meet the standard of his breed more than the others . The others excelled in their quality…weare not blind.
If the judge has a dog the same breed as any in the BEST round…she/he should be replaced

We live in Colorado, so there was a lot of fanfare on local news about the judge being from our state. My husband and I were very disappointed by her choice for Best in Show. Dismay turned to cynicism, when we found out that she CURRENTLY OWNS two Pekingese! There may have been some kind of bias in previous Westminster events, but this appears to be a little fishy.

Whether you like pekes or not he meets his breed profile and is real breed of dog… Ancient in fact . And regal. Which is much better than made up breeds that people are paying big money for. I’ve been a groomer for fifteen years and am very tired of labradoodles, golden doodles, schnauzaranian, schnoodles and my personal favorite the dirty pawed teddy bear. Wake up they are all mutts!!! I thought the peke was nice and I thought he should have won last year.

As Judge Cindy Vogel was taking her final look, I was saying aloud to my television, “Anything but the Tribble. Anything but the TRIBBLE!” Yes, Malachy resembles a Tribble wearing Donald Trump’s hair piece.

Out of the 7 dogs in that ring, I would have been happy to see any of the other 6 win. But the judge gave it to #7 — the fur-covered Roomba!

I am a dog lover. I show dogs myself. I’ve been involved in the fancy for almost 25 years.

But I am also a realist. No breed of dog, nor any other species, is without genetic health issues. Sadly, the Pekingese breed has a plethora of problems because of its brachycephalic skull shape.

That head shape only exists because the fanciers of this breed prefer that “look.” It has no “function,” it serves no “purpose,” other than “fashion.”

Pekes have severe breathing issues, overheat extremely easily, a mild blow to the head can cause their eyeball to pop out of the socket, they have facial skin issues, tracheal problems…to name only a few because of the skull shape.

That is pathetic and sad. And then a judge “rewards” it.
