'American Idol' Recap: Erika Van Pelt Sent Home After Whitney Houston Misfire

Erika Van Pelt sang Whitney Houston's "I Believe in You and Me" on 'American Idol' Thursday, but the judges didn't believe in her enough to save her from elimination. Since she made the top 10, Erika can look forward to going on the 'Idol' tour this summer.

DeAndre Brackensick and Heejun Han were in the bottom three with Erika, but they'll be around next week. The top nine contestants move into the 'American Idol' mansion in the Hollywood Hills for the rest of the season.

The top 10 started the show off with a group performance of Billy Joel's "The Longest Time." Steven Tyler's Aerosmith band mate Joe Perry made a surprise appearance with the contestants to perform "Happy Birthday" to Steven. He celebrates his 64th birthday on Monday.

Lana Del Rey sang her single "Video Games," the same song she awkwardly sang on 'Saturday Night Live' earlier this year. She came off more subdued this time around, and her vocal performance was better than the 'SNL' performance.  Season 10 finalist Haley Reinhart also returned to sing her new single, "Free."'

'American Idol"s top nine perform again Wednesday night at 8 p.m. Eastern time on Fox.
