Jessica Simpson's Extreme Baby Shower Latest in Celebrity Trend

A-list starlets enjoy the glitziest of parties, the most luxurious of clothes and all the riches of fame, so why should their offspring be welcomed into the world with anything less?

Extreme baby showers, from extravagant gifts to party sponsors, are popping up all across Hollywood as the town's baby boom continues.

Ready-to-pop star Jessica Simpson is the latest celebrity to benefit from the trend, celebrating her pending motherhood with a star-studded shower last weekend organized by a celebrity wedding planner.

Simpson's "Charlotte's Web"-themed shower, held Sunday in California, reportedly featured the singer's favorite foods - fried chicken, macaroni and cheese and fried Oreo cookies - and gifts that even she said were over-the-top.

"I mean my baby has garment bags of designer clothes," Simpson said Monday on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"  "It's pretty amazing."

People magazine reports Simpson herself showed up to the afternoon affair, attended by famous moms including Simpson's sister, Ashlee, and actress Jessica Alba, dressed to impress.

The guest of honor, the magazine says, wore a blue Roberto Cavalli dress and Miu Miu shoes accented with jewels that included $38,750 diamond and sapphire earrings, a $52,250 sapphire ring and a $16,250 white gold cuff.

The clothing designer and "Fashion Star" mentor has not been shy about sharing her pregnancy details with the public and she didn't hold back when it came to her shower, either.

"All day yesterday felt like a perfect dream!" Simpson, 31, Tweeted Monday. "Thank you @MindyWeiss for the best baby shower any mommy could ever want! Love u!"

Weiss is an event planner known for coordinating million-dollar weddings and parties, and now celebrity baby showers, too, including parties for new moms Denise Richards and Pink and Nicole Richie and Brooke Shields.

"I've seen anywhere from a new collection of childhood nurseries to an amazing Gucci bag filled with Gucci blankets, Gucci shoes and even Gucci pacifiers," Weiss told " Good Morning America."

The crafting-themed baby shower that former "90210? star Tori Spelling threw herself in Malibu in September when she was pregnant with her  third child, daughter Hattie, was a celebrity-studded party with its own sponsor, mega-chain craft store Michaels.

Designer Victoria Beckham had a more personal sponsor when it came to celebrating her new arrival, close pal Eva Longoria.  The "Desperate Housewives" actress threw the mom of three boys an all-pink baby shower when she was pregnant with her first daughter, now eight-month-old Harper.

"I think this is the time to get away with something whimsical or something that you loved as a child," Weiss said of the baby shower trend.

When it came to a theme for Simpson's shower, Weiss says she had no hesitation for the star, said to be expecting a girl with fiancé Eric Johnson that the couple plan to name Maxwell.

"She loved 'Charlotte's Web,'" Weiss said.  "So that's all I had to do to start thinking and designing this fabulous event."
