Wow, this is poorly researched. There are many steps that need to be taken before surgery is considered, and the WPATH Standards of Care address most of those steps. Even if the child prevailed and the mother agreed to surgery, any legitimate GRS surgeon will refuse surgery below a certain age.

Apparently, some in the media still think that this is a crisis-type "decision". No, crises can be brought on by abuse or neglect, but gender dysphoria is a persistent, ongoing condition that just does NOT fit this ridiculous soundbite news scenario.

As usual, when it comes to trans people, network tv gets it massively wrong. The likelihood a 15-year old, non-transitioned trans girl would go up to her parents and tell them 'I'm trans' by saying she wants genital surgery is like, zero. There is sooo much else that trans kids have to worry about, like not getting bullied, feeling suicidal, trying to live in their target gender socially, and not getting thrown out of the house. And instead, WWYD makes it all about 'getting surgery.' Which is typical, because when it comes to trans women, society has a bad case of 'dick on the brains.' Moreover, this entire segment is all about misgendering her (which is something trans kids really DO think about a lot). I notice when they had a segment with a gay teen coming out to his parent, it wasn't all about having anal sex. Yet again, ABC, this is all about exploitation than really discussing the prejudice and ignorance trans people face. Just curious if WWYD actually consulted with any trans teens to ask them what a situation like this was really like... I doubt it.

I have to side with the mom on this one, there is a reason why it is a crime to have relations with a minor. What this child is asking for is life changing and follows him for the rest of his life. Its not something that happens over night, not is it cheap at all. At the same time I think the mother should have at least listen to the boy, and have a open conversation with the boy. I can see were the mother is coming from. No parent want's to hear their child is unhappy with who they are..
