I’m just SMH at all of these comments. Everyone is up in a roar over an All-Black cast. But the truth of the matter is….IT’S NOT ALL BLACK!!! Yes, the lead actresses are all African American but if you bothered to pay attention to the trailer you would see that the romantic interest of Alfre Woodard’s character is…..WAIT FOR IT…….WHITE!!!! That’s right folks, he’s white! So for that person that wanted to see a “token white” in a black movie…..STAY TUNED! I absolutely love the original version of this movie but I am interested in seeing what these amazing actresses can bring to it. Also, as someone already posted, if you want to watch it then watch it. If you don’t, THEN DON’T!! But whether you watch it or not……IT’S GOING TO HAPPEN. GET OVER IT.

All I can say is Wow!!! I’m in disbelief of the comments that I have read. Who cares I’ll watch it with an all Mexican cast or Indian Cast are whatever. It’s a good STORY!!! So who ever stars in it it will be good. It’s 2012 people the old cliche of racism should have DIED OUT BY NOW!. BUT Values are sent down by generation to generation so racism will never die BLESSINGS!

In response to all the negative posts voicing issues with this movie being made with an all Black cast … and you are feeling like once again the black community is taking something from you … and you say that since this was a movie about a real family then if it is remade then the cast should also be white ….. well, can you explain all the pictures depicting Jesus as a white male … with the long stringy hair and blue eyes? Seriously! do you really believe he was born in South Beachm FL? Just get a life and don’t watch the movie if you are opposed to it! But you can’t have it two ways … Lincoln ended those days! You can dish it ( i.e. change anyone into a white version ) but you can’t take it ( i.e. all up in arms when the same is done with one of your own ).

it has always been my experience that anytime someone starts off a statement with “not to sound racist” or “I’m not a racist” something racist will follow shortly! SMH If it doesn’t really matter why comment? Why bring up race? Why not enjoy the movie and the storyline for what it is? It’s is so sad in 2012 people still behave like it’s 1912! LIG Steel Magnolias is one of my favorites and I can’t wait to see what the ladies will bring to the script!

I don’t get why the same women are cast in African American movies over and over again. There are other African American woman, fresh faces. I’m so sick of these people and Queen Latifah reprising the Sally Field role, what a joke. I won’t be watching this unless there is nothing left to do. Things like this just make a farce of the original and any ability the Black actresses have. Stop the madness and find some fresh talent and put these actresses in appropriate roles. None of them with the exception of maybe Alfre Woodard are appropriate for a work of this caliber. And she does most of the movies like this so I would say she should have been left out too. It’s too redundant.

Why does it have to be modern? I watched it recently and loved it. First they change the Pokemon voice actors, now this. Stop ruining everything!
“All-Black cast” how racist. So if I auditioned you’d tell me to go away because I’m white? That’s discrimination.

There is apparently nothing that is sacred anymore. What are they going to do, give the characters names like Qweeta, Tarquanda, Monifa, Qweefa, Lazagna and Boodireefa? Will it be featured at a weave salon @ Cabrini Greene? Good grief.

Hollywood should only remake something that wasn’t done right the first time. Steel Magnolias is a classic and reworking it is in my opinion TACKY and SENSELESS. I WILL NOT be watching.
