Coffee Spilled on Painting: Would You Share the Blame?

Matt Ward reports:

If a picture is worth a thousand words, how much is an art gallery masterpiece worth…after it's been splashed with coffee?

How will patrons of Blast Cafe and Art Gallery in Teaneck, N.J. react when another customer spills coffee on an expensive piece of art, and then tries to share the blame with them?

The scene: an employee - actually an actor hired by "What Would You Do?" -  is hanging a $5,000 painting on the wall of the cafe but forgets the nails. He sets it down on a nearby table so he can grab some from the basement.

"Oh, this is nice," says our actress, Traci, as she admires the painting while enjoying her morning coffee. Suddenly, the cup tips in her hand, leaving her coffee splattered all over the painting. Cafe patrons spring into action to help her clean up the mess.

"If you wipe it, it looks better," one woman says while helping Traci.

But after learning the value of the painting, Traci suggests that everyone present share the blame for the spill…and the customers who had been so quick before to lend a hand to Traci aren't so willing to help her now.

Watch the reactions and scenario play out Friday on "What Would You Do?" at 9 p.m. ET.
