Taylor Swift reportedly wants to portray another famous singer songwriter, Joni Mitchell, on the big screen.

A film adaptation of the book "Girls Like Us," which profiles the careers of Mitchell and fellow '70s songstresses Carly Simon and Carole King, is in the works, Variety reported. The film hasn't officially been given the green light, but production could start later this year. Several actresses have reportedly auditioned for the roles of Simon and King.

Swift doesn't have an official offer but Variety says she has been "circling" the role of Joni Mitchell.

Swift has previously appeared as part of the ensemble cast in "Valentine's Day" and voiced Audrey in Dr. Seuss' "The Lorax." If cast as Mitchell, the movie would mark Swift's drama debut.

The singer hinted to MTV in March that she was very interested in acting.

"I love the idea that you can tell a story in that way," she said. "I've been reading scripts for about five years. In my free time, that's all I do is read scripts."
