Prostate Cancer (PC) has many flavors. Most men die with PC, not from it. As men get older they tend to get it. It is very common. Even those with stage 4, it all depends if it is “fatal”. With surgery, radiation, hormone therapy, and wide range of new drugs and therapies that have just been approved (Provenge, Zytiga, MDV3100)…there are a lot of options that he can choose from. And that is not getting into the more unattractive chemo therapies which is usually not the first line option. There has been a lot of movement in battling back this disease. I know because I am stage 4 and doing great.

Most men will live well beyond 5-10 years after the worse version of PC. It all depends on what’s known as the gleason score. This shows how aggressive it is. (0-10,10 being the worse). They should report his diagnosis as: what did the biopsy show (gleason), what did the imaging show..

If Mr. O’neal has just been diagnosed, he has many years.

His cut-rate press agent specifically and directly stated “Stage 4.” Nobody mumbled, nobody said “approximately.”

Having had prostate cancer, myself, I have made it my business to be a well-informed patient. Stage 4 means it metastasized.

Ryan, before you say anything else, get your stuff together and get your story straight.

On Ryan’s facebook page he posted he doesn’t want to focus on his Cancer he would rather focus on his book???
Focus on his new book? OK, HMMMM does he really have cancer?

He did alot of shady things in Farrah’s dying days along with Alana Stewart and now he’s changing his Cancer diagnosis and blaming it on people magazine, something sounds fishy here and I really hope this creep is not using Cancer to sell his silly book of lies about Farrah.

I find it kinda ODD that he has a book coming out about May 1st and from what I heard pre-sales were not as expected and all of a sudden 2 weeks before the book comes out he has stage 4 cancer and now he says people magazine got it wrong???
No sorry this guy has a bad reputation and I wouldn’t be surprised if this sociopath is lying!

I never cared for Ryan O’ Neal, but I think it’s rotten for anyone who is not his own personal doctor (who would probably never say such things unless asked directly) to take away all hope with such comments, just to be featured in a news article.

to JRZWRLD: I don’t know who you are or what expertise you have to diagnose somebody as narcisist and even more baffling, “possibly a sociopath”. Having some academic knowledge of these concepts, reading your response made me laugh that kind of sad laughter that comes when you see the village idiot pretend to be the village mayor. Um, you can’t exactly rely on ANYTHING O’Neal says – the guy is a classic narcissist (possibly a sociopath) and he’ll say anything that will get him attention. He could be perfectly healthy, afflicted with another stage of cancer, or on death’s door and unwilling to acknowledge the fact. There’s no way to know.

first of all, I don’t like the one-word description of “cancer” after losing my husband 6 years ago on 4/24 to cancer of unknown primary. When his diagnosis came it was devastating, but my naivete thought “treat with chemo” and we’re done…not. So, I’m sure a lot of people think the same thing when they see and hear “cancer” used singulararly. That couldn’t be farther from reality. So, I’d appreciate it you give it the name it is when reporting on someone with cancer of ____ spell it out that way people will see that there’s virtually no chance of beating this ugly monster. And, as far as “stage IV” is concerened and a prognosis of a full recovery..hog wash.. When you hear or read Stage IV… your done. Doctor’s and their diagnoses and their “staging” expertise is soley based on their knowledge which we all know to be the “practice” of medicine ONLY. If someone is told they are Stage IV in any kind of cancer and make a full recovery…that’s not a miracle but a mishap on the doctor for now having propertly staged the cancer to begin with….consider yourself furtunate if told you are Stage IV and recover…I’d would have loved it if we found my husban’s primary cancer so we could have stood a fighting chance…he fought, but he fought an invisible beast…
