My daughter is blind and we say “look” and “see” and things of that nature. The first thing that any blind adult will tell you, is how annoying it is for people to try NOT to use those words. My daughter “looks” in her way. LOOK means to her: aim your head in the direction of those talking. Its no different for someone who is deaf.

I am sorry but there are some poorly chosen words by the author if this article…. How was Helen Keller… “outspoken” and a “vocal” supporter… she couldn’t speak!! The writer here could have chosen better descriptions.

This isn’t news. Sultan’s and this reporter’s research should have uncovered William Gibson’s _Monday After the Miracle_, as Kenny and Marie noted. Might as well write a book with great fanfare about the discovery that the earth is round. Writers, editors and reporters have gotten lazy.

Regarding the poignancy that Keller was denied the rights she fought for for others — *doh* — the reason she was fighting for those rights was because she and others were denied them. You don’t fight to institute rights that people already have.
