I loved watching it and I'm glad he was wearing a safety harness. I watched to see the skill, not to see him die if he failed. And it's not like safety harnesses are 100% foolproof; he could still be seriously injured or killed if he fell.

I posted this comment last night, but it never made it on ...or was not allowed on.

Firstly, I think ABC done a hack job at this event.

They don't have their facts correct -- to say THE MASSSIVE WATERS OF ALL '5' GREAT LAKES EMPTIES INTO THIS NIAGARA FALLS AND THEN IS SWEPT AWAY OUT TO THE OCEAN...come on...there are 4 Great Lakes .. the 5'th one ... Lake Ontario is below/downstream from the Falls....and it is HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS of Miles before it hits the Ocean. Don't make it out to be more than it is.

To have the announcers say over there on our USA Side is Niagara State Park...and say "we are seated at Niagara State Park on the Canadian Side"...we have NO Niagars State Park...it is Niagara Parks Commission. Then they further say we are seated on Niagara State Road...It is the Niagara Parkway.

If you are going to televise from Canada ... get your facts correct !!! or go back to the USA and do your announcing.

Then ABC cut off the event right at 11 pm -- we turned to Canadian/Toronto area channel .. there they show Nik receiving gifts and plaques from the Mayor of Niagara Falls (Ontario) and other congratulatory items from the Niagara Parks Commission (Ontario). Then they showed the press conference being held with Nik afterwards...why did ABC not show these events? ABC made the event ... Uneventful...and Boring !

This was a total entertainment failure. What's next, film a rope walker in the studio using a green screen?

What a pathetic excuse for a daredevil act. I would get more excitement from watching somebody cross a busy street! Seriously, why bother? ABC neutered the stunt, and Wallenda just acquiesced. The whole affair is a perfect statement about American culture.

Thanks to a corporate culture of risk avoidance, ABC completely ruined what should have been the crowning achievement for Mr. Wallenda's "career".

Once I found out about the 5 second delay and the safety tether, I promptly changed channels, which was a profound relief after the unprofessional and ineffective two-hour "pre-show" that ABC inflicted on its viewers.

If I was an advertiser duped into buying time during this so-called "event", I would demand an immediate apology and refund from ABC, which must now stand for Always Boring Content.

It's beyond ridiculous that people are justifying the hoax perpetrated on the public last night. I watched the build up and was never told that the death defying was being removed from the death defying aspect of the feat. Absolutely fu--ing ridiculous. I'm sure Karl Wallenda is turning over in his grave. Shame on Nik Wallenda for agreeing to such terms. He will forever go down as a laughing stock (especially among the wire walker community). I mean, how can you even remotely compare this to what Philippe Petit did (see Man on Wire - an excellent documentary on the subject) when he crossed the Twin Towers on a wire. David Banas in a previous comment said it best, "The harness converts it from a deadly stunt to a SixFlags ride." And, the dolts who state, why don't you do it or why aren't people lining up to do it. Your stupid questions don't deserve an answer, but, suffice to say, millions of amateur thrill seekers would line up to take a try if the had a safety harness attached to them.

What a Joke, This is not a DareDevil stunt but a lame episode of Fear Factor.
real DareDevils like Evel Knievel do not us training wheels.

What a brave man who at any moment could have been swinging looking like a fool, must be scary to know that you might not die and hand there. wow. anyone could have done this if there's no consequence.

Boycotted and will not support fake stunts
