Manda, Manda…..get a clue by learning something about history. Yeah, I know it’s hard, but sometimes it’s worth the effort to learn the facts. Like,you know, human beings made sacrifices that could have risked their very lives? Is that just a little too hard to comprehend?

Facts mean something, honey. Yes, we know it’s a movie….we aren’t the Great American Unwashed. Stop playing the Ugly American.

I agree with Mary, it might only be a movie but it still stings when the real hero is portrayed so badly. Ken Taylor deserved better, he saved lives and the Canadian government jumped in wholeheartedly and saved those people with him. Ben Affleck knows that a huge hit like this WILL rewrite history.

From what I’ve seen it looks like Affleck did a great job with this movie. I’m intrigued by the Iran hostage crisis so I’m excited this movie is getting such positive reviews. A couple of my coworkers at DISH are going to see Argo and want me to go, but I don’t really like going to see movies in theatres so I’m going to wait. I prefer to watch movies at home so I put it in my Blockbuster @Home queue. That way it will be mailed to me when it’s released on DVD, and I can send it back when I’m done. I think I’m really going to like this movie, and I can’t wait to sit down and watch it!

This movie turns our national hero, Ken Taylor, into a passive lackey just waiting for the CIA to save the day. Oh yes, there are sweet words about cooperation and respect but the fact is that none of the Canadians involved were asked for their input, they couldn’t be bothered to even contact them until they found out too late that they’ve insulted people with their portrayals. They claim it is a thank you but even the ending credit had to be changed to say – oh yeah, and they did some stuff too.

“In this case, I think Canada’s role was underplayed. It was more passive than assertive,” Taylor said.

With reshoots out of the question, Affleck agreed to change the postscript. The new version, drafted by Taylor, stresses the CIA “complemented” Canadian efforts.

Ben Affleck perpetuates the stereotype of ignorant and arrogant American to Canadians.
