ABC News' Any Robach reports:

Exuding confidence at age 40, Jennie Garth says she's ready for the next chapter of her life after a public and painful divorce from her ex-husband, 'Twilight' star Peter Facinelli.

In a revealing new interview with People magazine that hits newsstands Friday, Garth explains how she got her life back - and dropped a considerable amount of weight in the process - after her agonizing divorce.

"I have to pick myself up every day and say, 'The show must go on,' meaning life as I know it must go on, whatever the obstacle is, I know I can handle it, and I can get through it," she said.

The former "Beverly Hills, 90210? star says the past year "has been a bit of a rebirth for me as a person by shedding that negative space and all the pain associated with that time."

Since her divorce, Garth has dropped 30 pounds, which she has said was in an effort to be a healthy and positive role model for her three daughters.

Garth and Facinelli announced in March that they were ending their 11-year marriage, which was something she talked about in her CMT reality-TV show "Jennie Garth: A Little Bit Country."

"You hope that you're going to grow old together. And this really threw me for a loop," Garth said.

She admits, however, that the couple's relationship had been on the rocks for awhile despite "several" attempts at counseling.

"I spent a couple of years lying in bed and being depressed, it was that 'I can't breathe' pain," she said. "Physically, I didn't look my best and, mentally, I didn't feel my best. I was doing everything I could to be a good mom, but that was all I could handle."

Garth is now getting back on her feet, and even dating, which she describes as "weird and exciting."

"I'm not pining, and I'm not sad," she said. "I have a strong constitution. I have a lot of inner calm about stuff right now.
