Michael Richards to Return to TV With Kirstie Alley, Rhea Perlman

Michael Richards has landed his first regular TV gig in more than a decade. The “Seinfeld” star will co-star opposite Kirstie Alley and Rhea Perlman in the TV Land pilot Giant Baby, according to Deadline.
He’ll play the limo driver of Alley’s character, Madison “Maddie” Banks, a Broadway star whose long-lost son turns up on her doorstep after his adopted mother dies. Perlman will play Maddie’s best friend and assistant.
Richards, 63, earned three Emmys during his nine seasons on “Seinfeld” as the chicken loving, hands flailing, perpetually crazy Kramer. He starred in the short-lived 2000 NBC series “The Michael Richards Show” and appeared with his “Seinfeld” cast mates on an episode of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” in 2009.
Richards’ career was derailed in 2006 after he was filmed shouting the N-word and a host of expletives during a standup set at the Laugh Factory. He later apologized on “The Late Show With David Letterman.”
“I got heckled and took it badly and went into a rage,” he said. “I am not a racist! That’s what’s so insane about this. For me to be on stage, and flip out and say this stuff, I’m deeply, deeply sorry.”

I wish Michael Richards the best. He made us all laugh via Seinfeld. He will always be one of the greats. Anybody that wants to frame him with what he said in a club one time is nothing but a racist. A purveyor of hate. Richards makes us laugh, people like SuperJ make us hang our heads in disgust. I’d rather laugh then chase sound bytes & judge people. 10 years of laughter vs. 1 or 2 days of ‘news’ on Entertainment Tonight. pfffft. go listen to JayZ record & get mad SuperJ , wha? no?

Hey AJ it was a joke. You said, ” I’d rather laugh then chase sound bytes & judge people.” So why are you judging me? BTW, I’d hardly call Richard’s rant a sound bite. Now go have your mommy make you some fish sticks and go back to your basement….DA.

I find it interesting that if one goes off on a clearly racist rant and reveals themselves to harbor truly racist feelings that some feel they are beyond redemption. Here’s the rub folks, everyone on the planet has or will have said or felt something racist in their lives. Mr Richards is no different.
The man apologized. The man clearly does not believe what he said anymore. And the man hurt nobody.
If he’d have lynched someone, if he had gotten someone arrested for a crime they didn’t do, or if he discriminated against someone in the workplace…I would have little sympathy for him. But, he went off on a very unfunny and racist rant. It was not right, but it was much more right than the scenarios I posited above.
Remember, when you point your finger at someone, there are always three pointing right back at you.

@ Andrew…exactly! Michael Richards is funny. I doubt he’s a racist. I don’t like people like SUPERJ who are going to focus on an incident & want to exploit it…all for what? perpetuate hate? who needs that? geez get over superj. go hate somewhere else. I want to laugh. Michael Richards is funny as hell! I can’t wait to see him again on tv.

What are they going to call it, “All Washed Up?”

It’s great to see Michael Richards back on TV again–in addition to his role as Kramer on “Seinfeld”, he was also absolutely zany (along with Fran Drescher and others) in the Weird Al ’80s spoof “UHF”. It’s unfortunate what happened in 2006–but at least his pal Jerry Seinfeld helped him out by getting him on Letterman where he was able to apologize to the country. I wish him the best of luck.

He’s clearly a liberal, so he can’t be a racist. However, if his Dad had said something in the 80′s, or he said something in the 90′s one time, he would never, ever, ever have lived it down. If he were a conservative, that is.
Just look at all the stupid, racist things Biden has said in the last 5 years. No one will bring it up, and it never gets reported. He just called Obama a “homeboy” 3 weeks ago. ‘Nuff said, my point is proven.

What fascinates me with people in the Hollywood community (I’m tempted to say America in general) is how they shun a person for losing his cool ONE time in public and going on an angry rant, while OTHER celebrities can RAPE (ex. Mike Tyson) or BEAT UP their women, and be as popular as ever. The double standards is way beyond ridiculous and disgusting.

I loved him as Kramer – he was funny. As far as the racist comments, they were very inappropriate. However, I’ve heard many black entertainers make racial comments about white people – joking and in serious situations. No one ever makes an issue of it. Chris Rock is notorious for those type of statements. I’m sick of people acting as though racism only runs in one direction! If you’re going to hold a white entertainer responsible for those types of comments, then Chris Rock and others should definitely be called out for their racial slurs against white people.

Everyone judging Michael should watch the online Seinfeld Show “comedians in cars getting coffee” Michael talks about it and you can see in his eyes he truly is sorry and that that rant doesn’t define him at all. Michael made a mistake of making those rants but that doesn’t make him a racist guy, you don’t see him everywhere going on and on with racist stuff like other celebrities like Ted Nugent who regardless are well accepted. Imagine how it would be if people defined you for your most embarrasing/ terrible mistake in your life, people should give other people second chances specially when they make mistakes.
