It seems that Jimmy Kimmel has much more respect for David Letterman than his other late-night rival, Jay Leno.

The ABC host is the cover boy of the new issue of Rolling Stone. The New York Daily News, which obtained an advance copy of the issue, reported that Kimmel said of Leno, “As a comedian, you can’t not have disdain for what he’s done: He totally sold out.”

Kimmel, who moves his show from midnight to the 11:35 p.m. ET slot next week, said the NBC “Tonight Show” host “was a master chef who opened a Burger King.”

Kimmel has voiced his negative feelings for Leno a few times in recent years. In 2010, he impersonated Leno on his program, and he also made an appearance on Leno’s now-defunct primetime talk show, chastising him for planning a return to “The Tonight Show” after Conan O’Brien was forced out. And last year, at a New York City event, Kimmel said of Leno, “F*** him.”

In his Rolling Stone interview, Kimmel is more complimentary of Letterman, his childhood idol.

“If I beat David Letterman in the ratings, does that mean I’m better than Letterman? No f***ing way,” he said.

Kimmel also had nice things to say about Leno’s NBC late-night colleague, Jimmy Fallon.

“People are going to compare me and him for years to come — we’re being positioned as the Leno and Letterman of the next round,” he said. “I like it because he’s a very worthy competitor.”

The issue of Rolling Stone featuring Kimmel hits newsstands Friday.

I didn’t read the title fully, I thought this was about Jimmy Fallon, not Jimmy Kimmel, why in the world are they both using the same nickname? Jimmy surely isn’t their’ birth name. Kimmel is not at all appealing to me, Fallon is out there doing everything including Sesame Street and he seems like a nicer person in real life.

So everyone is coming out of the wood works now, eversince Letterman told the world that Leno is a phony…..

Another overpaid liberal narcisist from Hollywood. Same breed as those from Chicago.

That was some great wording = a master chef who opened a burger king.

Leno was great in the beginning of his career, but he should never have been given the Tonight show.

It should have gone to Letterman in the first place. But I took that merely as a personal disappointment, but that Leno was not wrong in pursuing his own opportunities. But then this whole flare up with leaving the Tonight show, giving it to Conan and then taking it back – that was too much for me, it cemented a rather negative image of Leno in my mind.

I like Letterman still, but Kimmel and Fallon are hilarious – bring it on.

And what would you call using your relatives on your show? And what would you call an older boss messing around with an intern? And what would yo call taking a pay cut to keep your workers?

Why are people so bitter? This idiot, Letterman, Conan…Entertainment is big business and if you can’t deliver the ratings, you’re toast. Leno kicks these idiots’ rear end night after night! If he is a phony, why is he still tops, 20 years later? Bottom line is that Kimmel and Letterman are just bitter! Plain and simple. I like the way Leno deals with the whole situation – just ignore them. Get your ratings up, then, maybe, we can fight.

Kimmel has an unrealistic opinion about himself…”people comparing you and Fallon as the next Leno and Letterman”? First, Kimmel is not that funny…so, I guess he will be the “Letterman” to Fallon’s “Leno”. As things are today, I expect Fallon to kick Kimmel’s butt for a long time.

Conan was ALWAYS the wrong choice and I’ was relieved when they removed him……STILL not missing him.Letterman is crazy….documented on TV by his OWN words and yet this harassment of Leno continues. Now Letterman would like us to believe he REALLY likes Leno..but that Leno is actually the crazy person???Really????Leno has shown class by NOT pandering to the cheap shots of Letterman,Conan and now Kimmel.Seems to me that this was NEVER between any of these people…it was NEVER their decision and THEY should shut up and move on.The networks make THEIR choices..it is what it is.

Posted by: Bobbie | January 4, 2013, 11:13 am 11:13 am

Lol. let’s see Jimmy Kimmel take a pay cut to say the jobs of his crew. Or Letterman for that matter. Conan wasn’t funny. he still isn’t. Letterman is mean spirited and always was. I don’t watch them and most DON’T, which is why the ratings stand the way they do.

Now, I will be including Mr. Kimmel in my mean spirited list. *shrugs*

Leno isn’t Carson. but he’s better by far than the rest. Both as a host, and as a human being.

Posted by: Hall442 | January 4, 2013, 11:14 am 11:14 am

Jimmy who? Jimmy who gives a rat’s a** what you think. Letterman and you would kill for his ratings. That’s the bottom line.

Letterman and Kimmel…I got two words for you: Fallon and Leno.

Posted by: ustimes | January 4, 2013, 11:18 am 11:18 am

I really doubt the celebrities had much say in who the networks picked to Host their program.
Letterman and Kimmel have never been funny in my opinion, Leno and Fallon are by far the better comedic hosts. I never liked Conan and was glad when NBC replaced him so quickly.

Posted by: crc | January 4, 2013, 11:24 am 11:24 am

Letterman is …..hot air. No talent, no skill, and immensely irritating. Fallon, Kimmel, O’Brian- had possibilities, but fail. Craig Ferguson and Leno are quick witted, fast on their feet and at least self effacing and entertaining.
So, who sold out?

Posted by: Sherri | January 4, 2013, 11:25 am 11:25 am

Kimmel is about as funny as Konan. That is, not very. He’ll be a distant third. Jimmy Fallon is at least 10x funnier than Kimmel.

Posted by: Barry | January 4, 2013, 11:30 am 11:30 am

Kimmel: egomaniac supreme and talentless as well.

Posted by: USArmyAirborne | January 4, 2013, 11:31 am 11:31 am

Kimmel is so obviously jealous of Leno….he thinks if Leno were out of the picture HE’d be a big star. But he woudn’t. He isn’t as funny as Leno and he isn’t that talented.

Posted by: Roxann | January 4, 2013, 11:31 am 11:31 am

Leno is a despicable obsequious phony and the Tonight Show has been tarnished ever since he hid in the closet while his agent talked NBC pinheads into sending Johnny Carson to early retirement. He has neither honor nor integrity. His fans tend to be the same people who thought Mitt Romney was “a regular guy who cares about our problems”, and his humor has all the edge of a bowling ball. The viewership of Dave, Conan and the Jimmies combined shows that most people DON’T like Leno, and the world will be a better place when he finally retires to his massive collection of cars.

Posted by: RenegadeFL | January 4, 2013, 11:34 am 11:34 am

It’s all supply and demand Jimmy. Leno had more viewers than Conan so he got the slot. Conan was well paid for leaving….. All you guys are overpaid anyway. I assume the author of the article doesn’t like Leno……only reason I can think of for writing this.

Posted by: Kathy | January 4, 2013, 11:37 am 11:37 am

Our favorite movie and TV personalities are malignant narcissists who live and work in a different world than normal human beings. They have fought for years to be there, and everything they say and do is calculated to keep themselves there. Unless they’re so wasted and decadent they’ve lost control. At the moment, Leno is driving around southern California in vintage autos and in near-perfect weather. If he lost the Tonight Show he’d still be rich, and able to work the comedy circuit, unless he’s vacationing. None of them give a crap about anyone but themselves.

Posted by: PEIKOVIIAN | January 4, 2013, 11:43 am 11:43 am

Kimmel and Letterman are just sour grapes. They know Leno is funnier and they are just trying to drag him down to their level. Very sad behavior.

Posted by: Allen | January 4, 2013, 11:45 am 11:45 am

Yep…I agree…Jimmy who?

Posted by: RalphF3200 | January 4, 2013, 12:03 pm 12:03 pm

Except Jay Leno is funny, where Kimmel is not.

Posted by: Ed | January 4, 2013, 12:03 pm 12:03 pm

Jimmy Kimmel needs to concentrate on his new time slot and leave Jay Leno alone. Jay has been number one for a very long time for a reason….he is funny, smart, and does an excellent job. Kimmel should be looking up to him instead of putting him down. Kimmel can easily compete against Letterman (who couldn’t) but really don’t see him standing a chance against Leno.

Posted by: Cathy | January 4, 2013, 12:14 pm 12:14 pm

What exactly did Leno do that made him “sold out” in Kimmel’s mind? I think Kimmel is a little jealous of the success and rating that Leno gets. Grow up Jimmy.

Perhaps Mr. Kimmel would do better to concentrate on his own show and stop worrying about Mr. Leno.

As far as talent and entertainment are concerned: Letterman and Fallon are THE BEST!

Posted by: CherishTheHumor | January 4, 2013, 1:48 pm 1:48 pm

@DENISE……..Really? maybe Fallon ,that kid is talented and..modest! When was the last time you saw something talented by that smug, unapproachable, overrated Letterman? He doesn’t even EVER perform asa comic, while Leno does 300 shows a year, most in Vegas, over an hour, and hes one of the funniest comics and very witty(you should pay attention to his ad -libs when he does his ‘Jay walking’ segments, on the street! Letterman will need writers to give him lines in year receivers!! Letterman can’t or doesn’t even bother to read/act the ‘top 10′ the right away, he acts like
he just want to go through it quickly! And he makes over $50 million a year (!!!!!!!!!!!!!), for that, while thousands of more talented, nicer comics, starve, with no break! Even when he got his break,40 years ago, Letterman was such a lousy comic, that a lot of comics advised him just to stick to witing for other comics! Maybe you should bother to go and see Leno perform in a Club, or Vegas, or , in California, every sunday night he performs at the Hermosa Beach Comedy club, and see who the real talent is, LENO or that boring, smug, non comic, Letterman! Fallon is gonna be big, hes a hundred times more talented than Letterman!!

Posted by: STHU | January 4, 2013, 2:32 pm 2:32 pm

Well, Kimmel is a hyprocrite. He’s forcing Nightline to move to a later timeslot for his dumb show! If Conan O’Brien had better ratings, he’d still be hosting the Tonight Show. At what point is Conan going to take responsibility for low ratings? It’s his own fault he got forced out.

Posted by: Ann | January 4, 2013, 2:36 pm 2:36 pm

I like Jimmy Kimmel as well as Jimmy Fallon. The two older guys have seen their day. Letterman is takes to many cheap shots in the name of humor, and both he and Leno are just plain stupid and silly most of the time. Was it a lousy deal for Leno to walk away from the Tonight Show and then ask for it back when his primetime gig bellyflopped? Sure. But, frankly, Conan was not very good in the spot. I think all of these fellows appeal to different segments of viewers in their own way, so they need to all calm down. Bring what you got, and let the rest go.

Kimmel is being LOW CLASS. Not good.

Posted by: johnraccoon | January 4, 2013, 3:12 pm 3:12 pm

Kimmel is the least funny person I’ve ever seen. (and I’m fifty years old, prior Air Force and have traveled to different countries). There is nothing remotely funny about his so-called humor. At least Leno has gotten a laugh out of me, Kimmel just leaves me scratching my head. It’s not that its sophisticated humor, he just isn’t funny or entertaining.

Posted by: David | January 4, 2013, 3:27 pm 3:27 pm

I watched Leno for many years until he pulled that sneak attack on Conan. I haven’t watched his show since. I liked Leno better then Letterman, but now I just watch Letterman. Letterman makes big bucks because he owns his own show. Leno does not, so he is lower down the money tree and takes a big cut in pay because of it. Kimmel is funny, but not as funny as Leno and may be be a small bit funnier then Letterman. The stuff that Letterman does on his show, is his shtick. The way he acts, like he really doesn’t care about how things go, is part of his act. Most people who don’t know him, don’t get the inside joke in what he says.

Kimmel – I have no respect for someone who can’t open their mouth without using the F word. Soon as the profanity starts I reach for the remote.

Posted by: Sandman | January 4, 2013, 4:48 pm 4:48 pm

I don’t think Jay Leno is funny and his squeaky voice is annoying. And for those of you blaming Conan O’Brian for that tantrum Leno pulled need to remember that it was Lenos prime time show that was cancelled for poor ratings.

Posted by: howdymo1 | January 4, 2013, 5:04 pm 5:04 pm

Leno may or may not be your comedic choice. He at least knows how to keep his mouth shut while others blather on and on.

Posted by: Mel | January 4, 2013, 6:51 pm 6:51 pm

how exactly did leno sell out?? was he an anti-capitalism, hippy comedian that then went working “for the man”??? i don’t think so. he took the job that was very comedian’s dream job, hosting the tonight show.

what exactly did leno do that was a “sell out” that kimmel didn’t do himself?

letterman = used to be funny a few decades ago, but then got old and creepy
conan = funny sometimes but interrupts the guest way too much, he always has to have the spotlight
kimmel = not funny
fallon = seems like a nice guy

God, how JEALOUS are kimmel & letterman?!? Jay Leno is nicer than either of them will ever be and they are sickening with their big mouths. Jay will have the last laugh, you buffoons.

Posted by: Kari | January 4, 2013, 8:17 pm 8:17 pm

Conan was by far the wrong choice. He was given a time slots occupied by a lot of retirees and, by his choice of subject matter, refused to include their type of humor in his repertoire. Did he really think his “masturbating bear,” etc. were going to keep hoards of people from changing the channel while many who would find it funny were asleep so they could go to work the next day? Conan is an extremely talented guy. But no common sense. So if Leno hadn’t gone back to the Tonight Show, Conan would have been forced out anyway.

Posted by: Fred | January 5, 2013, 12:42 am 12:42 am

@The-Mick. There you go again. You obviously didn’t watch Conan on the Tonight Show, which is why you have no clue about what he did and didn’t do on the show. Jay Lamo appeals only to the lowest denominator of idiots that he dumbed down the show for. He ruined the Tonight Show. Carson despised Leno and didn’t want him as the new host. Carson had class. Leno has nothing but fat headed narcissism.

Posted by: Truth | January 5, 2013, 12:48 am 12:48 am

First of all Conan is funny. Jimmy K tells it like it is and I commend him for it, is he funny?? Sometimes. Secondly, Leno is an a-hole, for pushing Carson out, and then Conan, (Team COCO all the way). And Leno is NOT funny.

Posted by: TJS517 | January 5, 2013, 1:56 am 1:56 am

I like Letterman and Kimmel. Definitely do not like Leno.

Posted by: Zimbo | January 5, 2013, 4:44 am 4:44 am

Letterman just isn’t funny at all anymore. He’s too political. I like Leno because he has purported himself with grace. I don’t know what happened about the Conan deal. Was it really Leno’s fault that Conan’s ratings were so poor? Kimmel? Who is he and how long has been around? Leno has been doing his show for over 20 years. I love Fallon, though. Don’t recall his blasting anyone. That’s classy too.

Posted by: Janet | January 5, 2013, 7:35 am 7:35 am

Character still matters to me. Leno and Fallon seem to have it. Conan as well. All three are funny as well. Letterman is just a bitter man who has cheated on his wife and created scandal after scandal for himself (he admits it). Didn’t Kimmel dump his wife as soon as he found fame? Yuck. Who cares about his opinion?

Posted by: Marley | January 5, 2013, 7:39 am 7:39 am

Mr. Kimmel is unfortunately a loud mouth, punk who thinks that rude, crude, BS will save his butt. Letterman has failed year after year but kept on due to his Leftist views and our media would be hard pressed to kick his ass off. If these guys, Conan included, wish to succeed let them do it by doing what they do best for their followers and let the best man or woman win on their talent and not their political views. They act like pro atheletes who pose, primp, and brag about themselves. Just go and prove it on the field and shut the hell up.

Posted by: Wilson Faris | January 5, 2013, 8:17 am 8:17 am

Interesting……. Has anyone heard anything out of Leno since Letterman called him “insecure”? Kimmel? Why is his opinion worthy? He lacks class and humor. He is still wet behind the ears. What he calls humor is mean spirited.

What is amazing is Leno’s silence. He is not defending himself. Why? When you know that what is being said is not right, you dont have to defend yourself. Let the narcissism of Letterman & Kimmel continue. Maybe one day we will see them have a cat-fight over a mirror.

Posted by: Mike | January 5, 2013, 9:08 am 9:08 am

Jay Leno appeals to an older white demographic and conservative learning individuals (as is evidenced here, posters who fling “Libs suck”). Jay’s humor is non-biting, routine and uncontroversial, a far cry from his beginnings and enormous talents. He sold out, no question, but on the other hand, while I don’t enjoy his brand of humor, someone has to accomodate the large middle America demographic and to that end he is laughing all the way to the bank.

Posted by: REGINA | January 5, 2013, 10:58 am 10:58 am

Wow, really??? What is Kimmel or some these commentors talking about?? I like Letterman better than Leno, BUT give Leno a break. First he didn’t force Carson into retirement ( the obove comment is the first time I heard that one). People should have been mad at Conan, not the other way around. Because unlike Carson, Leno was forced out of the Tonight show ( despite haveing the best rating for late night). He good naturedly went along with his conselation prize of a prime time show even though he was publicly against the move and had no intention of retiring. Conan was part of this takover, how does he become the victim, when he had no problem taking the show away from Leno?! Then NBC had to face the problem of going from the number one late night show to ratings crashing down when Conan took over. Leno get faulted for not giving NBC and Conan the finger when they pushed him out, and then he gets attacked for taking his show back. Doesn’t sound fair to me and I’m a Letterman guy.
For the first time in years Letterman was number one ( always in my book, btw). Leno has a reputation for being a nice guy, but my advice to him the next time he hears this BS he should come out fighting.

Mr. Kimmel, what a sore loser you are. You have alot of room to talk, you got your own show. Are you JEALOUS , cause it sure sounds like it. Mr Leno has alot of years and experience in comedy and he helps other comedians to pursue their talent. What have you done except blow alot of hot air. You only wish you had the lifetime experience Mr. Leno has. I don’t watch your show or Mr. Letterman because both of you are a couple of narcissitic buffoons. I like Mr. Leno and would rather watch his show, he is a nice guy and from I have seen of the times his wife has appeared, she is a rather nice person. You on the other hand like to humilate, I don’t see anything nice about you. You should wipe that smirk off your face, it’s unbecoming of a wanna comedian, with no talent.

Posted by: chris | January 5, 2013, 8:47 pm 8:47 pm

To Mr Jay Leno, Thank you for making us laugh, you are a great comedian.
Boohoooohoo Jimmy Kimmel, the sore loser.

Posted by: chris | January 5, 2013, 8:54 pm 8:54 pm

All of them together x10 + Conan + Ferguson + Fallon and it still leaves you wanting Johnny Carson.

Letterman used to have sometimes-funny almost childlike freshness and cute. Fallon get’s better with time and more interesting the more you know about him.

Late night body-shaper commercials beat them all. And that takes all of 3 minutes.

Posted by: Shelama | January 6, 2013, 2:39 pm 2:39 pm

I haven’t watched Leno even once since he and NBC screwed Conan over. I like Fallon and Conan the best. I can’t wait for Leno to retire. He is stale and old and appeals mostly to to over-55 age group.

He is so jealous of Leno!! How is he a sellout? Kimmel is an idiot and his show is trash!!! Doesn’t he know we can all see who has more class? It is Leno who is doing the adult thing by not opening his mouth to address the haters!! Besides….Kimmel use to be on a show that was absolute rubbish and disrespectful to women and he has the nerve to diss Leno!! Only in Hollyweird!

Posted by: DRG | January 6, 2013, 8:20 pm 8:20 pm

Here are the facts….Conon left the tonight show on his own accord because he didn’t want to follow Leno at 12:05 am. NBC wanted to put Leno in the 11:35 pm time slot for a 30 minute show. Conon was a fool and he let his ego make the decision. Kimmel needs to mind his own business and zip his mouth. I am fed up with Jimmy Kimmel and his over blown Ego. Leave Jay Leno alone!
