She is probably having a difficult time keeping her weight normal because of her meds. These meds have a horrible tendency to cause weight gain, very seriously horrible weight gain, especially the Bipolar meds. Even if you aren’t eating more, the meds just screw up the metabolism in such a way that the weight just piles on.

Her weight?! Some people are carping on her weight?! Wow.

As one poster noted, medications (and medical conditions) can cause weight gain. I spent over a year on high dose Prednisone and swelled up like the Pillsbury Doughboy. But it was that or go blind in one eye. Bottom line – it saved 75% of my vision, and after weaning off the medication the weight and swelling went away. If her meds cause weight gain and she will not ever be able to stop the meds, do you suggest she suffer through untreated bi-polar disorder instead? So she can look good in a bikini… for a movie?!

I was not able to view the video because it’s been taken down, but I am bipolar and I find a lot of these comments very hurtful. I’m go glad that I’ve had very few pulblic “bipolar moments,” and certainly none that were filmed and put all over the internet. People who don’t have this disorder will NEVER fully understand it, but trust that many of the afflicted are intelligent, creative, funny, loving, passionate, productive and NOT crazy. People like me, people like Carrie. Much love, Ms. Fisher.

strange how differently people react to this type of chronic illness, think how people like Michael J Fox or Patrick Swazye are looked up to for coping with their illness, now look how Carrie Fisher and others with mental illness are the butt of jokes and rude comments. The latter didn’t create nor have anymore control over their illness than the former but the treatment of them is so different. That is really terrible.

@Betty due to the stigma about mental illness, many celebs try to bring attention to it to help stop the stigma. Bring change 2 mind is a group Glenn Close is associated with ( family member who are bi polar) that does that. I personally think it ‘s a good thing since many still hold the stupid opinion that people with mental illness are “lunatics”,” maniacs” etc when in reality you probably don’t even know some have the illness unless it’s caught on camera and shown round the world like this one

I was onboard and got to meet her after the show and while getting off the boat. She is an awesome, outgoing, kind person. I love Carrie and wish her nothing but the best in life.

Before griping about her weight it might interest you that it may be the medications she is on that cause her to keep the weight on. Hope you never have an illness that requires you to take a med that makes you gain weight!

To me she’ll always be the hot terrorist psycho-babe, Jake Elwood’s former fiancee from the “Blues Brothers”. She was hot in that movie.
