Ireland Baldwin Blasts Critics’ Attacks on Weight, Parents

Ireland Baldwin is striking back, after critics on Tumblr and Twitter had some harsh things to say about her weight.

“Of course I get those comments about how I am too fat to model, how I am not model material, how I am an unattractive girl, how I am too tall, etc. I understand,” the daughter of Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger wrote Monday night on Tumblr. “I don’t look as glamourous (sic) as [English model-actress] Rosie Huntington Whitely when leaving the gym.”

Baldwin, 17, debuted this month in a bikini shoot on the Hudson River for the New York Post after signing with high-profile modeling agency IMG.

“I understand that I am not a size .008.  What I don’t fully understand, is what is the good in commenting on a photo of a 17 year old girl and calling her fat, ugly, etc? Is that helping you in some way? I’m confused,” she wrote.

One critic commented “you have a 27 inch waist and you were signed to IMG? I don’t mean for this message to be rude but I always believed you needed to have a 25 inch waist or smaller (I want to model and i’m trying to lose weight).”

The 6-foot-2 model has admitted to an eating disorder and self-esteem issues but says she has dedicated herself to a healthy lifestyle by eating nutritious foods and working out.

She also addresses the stresses and problems she has faced as a child of famous parents.  As the daughter of one of the most famous beauties, Baldwin constantly faces being compared to her mother.

“I AM NOT MY PARENTS. My mom is one of the most beautiful woman (sic) in the world. She is 5’9, I am 6’2. She is petite and fragile, and I am fit and …. more to love tehe. (sic) I have a booty, she has a thigh gap,” she wrote.

She’s no stranger to nasty messages, given the one her father left her in the infamous voice mail five years ago calling her a “thoughtless little pig.”

“More importantly, my Dad has moved on,” she wrote. “He recognized that he needed to change, so he made changes. He is now healthy, happily married with a baby on the way. He moved on, so why can’t you?”

She is modeling. So by who’s standard is she not the right size or too small. Apparently IMG are satisfied. I am glad that she knows who she is and does not let the critcism of other weight her down. Ireland should always remember to just do her. Do not worry about the thought process of others who have nothing to do but try to hurt others. Remember: People will comment on you, they will criticize you, but only God can validate.

It’s a terrible shame that people want to belittle and degrade other people. This is a beautiful girl. Too fat?? Really? People should be complimenting her on taking chances and working. I’m sure she could be very comfortably sitting at home doing nothing with the two parents she has but she’s not. I wonder how many of her critics have the confidence and ambition to go out and do what she is doing. I bet not many. I feel sorry for people that put other people down because I guarantee that they don’t have half of the confidence this girl does and it makes them feel better about themselves to criticize other people.

She is a beautiful young woman. No wonder young girls have such a distorted view of beauty.

She’s beautiful. A 27-inch waste on a 6-foot woman. She’s skinny, not fat. She needs to tell all the people who try to put her down to go pound sand. Those haters are just nasty, sad people.

She’s fat??? Seriously? She’s beautiful and healthy looking. What is up with all these haters?

I wish I looked like that. I’d laugh at anyone who called me fat!

Ireland is a lovely young girl. People that criticize her for such trivial things are really pathetic

Unfair to call her fat. Attractiveness is individual – I HAVE NO INTEREST IN THIS GAL BUT A LOT OF OTHER GUYS WILL and that is fine with me. But blaming the public and people who heap nonsense on women for their lack of self esteem is stupid.

I think Ireland Baldwin is a beautiful young woman and a positive role model to all of the young ladies out there. Kudos to her for focusing on herself and not letting what others have to say about her be what guides her. I also applaud her for focusing on healthy living. I hope that she continues on this good path she has set before her and doesn’t follow the likes of Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan.

It is apalling that anyone would criticize a young teenage girl and more horrific they would call her “fat”. Its beside the fact that at 6’2″ Ireland has a long long long way to go before she has to worry about her weight.(27″ waist, really? Are they serious?) I’m actually speechless and can’t think of words to say about the ignoramouses attacking a young lady on the threshold of beginning her life as an adult. Great example these adults are setting for her. May God Bless Ireland in all she does.

I’d like to add that despite what Ireland thinks, she’s every bit as beautiful as her mother.

She’s beautiful and inherited great genes. I’d like to see what those people look like who call her “fat” and “ugly”; I bet they’re no prizes, and I bet the majority of them are either very frumpy or very skeletal women.

And there may be some skinny gay men are picking on her as well. Don’t let it get to you, Ireland; you’re stunning.

I guess people don’t understand perspective? My sister is six feet tall and I’m five-six. At 160 pounds she was rail thin. At 180 pounds she looked good and at that same weight I’m a fat lump. A taller person usually also has a broader bone mass to go with the height. Of course they can have larger dimensions and weigh more!
