When Kayleigh Duff, a young British mother who is battling a rare form of liver cancer, said on a TV program that one of her wishes was to meet Tom Hardy, she didn't necessarily expect it to come true.

It did.

According to Duff's Facebook page, Hardy's fiancée , Charlotte Riley, saw the appearance and got in touch with a friend of Duff's to set up a secret meeting.

"I nearly died when I saw him. I was shaking!" Duff told the Canterbury Times of the "Dark Knight Rises" actor. "I just thought [my friend and I] were having a day in London."

Instead, Duff said that she and Hardy "had lunch and tea and scones," and of course, posed for a photo.

To commemorate the special day, Hardy bought Duff a diamond necklace-and she gave him a kiss on the cheek.

"He was so lovely," she told the paper. "Down to earth."
