'90210' Star Ian Ziering Makes Chippendales Debut

Actor Ian Ziering played Steve Sanders on the hit teen soap opera "Beverly Hills, 90210? back in the 1990s, but the actor doesn't seem to have lost any of his appeal.

He debuted as a guest headliner with the Chippendales, the popular male revue, this weekend in Las Vegas.

Ziering, 49, told "Good Morning America" that he dieted for the past three months to get himself into shape, losing 25 pounds in the process.

"I had a vision board to see the weight I want to be," he said. "I had the playing cards of all the Chippendales' guys up there so it was very motivating."

Ziering, who has an infant daughter and 2-year-old daughter with his wife, Erin Kristine Ludwig, said having two babies made going to the gym less of a priority.

Dieting was "tough," he said. The first five days he ate strictly protein, then started incorporating carbohydrates and vegetables. When the hunger pangs struck, he said, he separated his mind from his body in order not to give in to his cravings.

"As the weight came off, the flirty texts started to appear," Ziering said of his wife's reaction to his new physique. "A little more sugar, if you know what I mean."

Ziering, a former "Dancing With the Stars" contestant, said ballroom dancing was distinctly different from the kind of dancing he's doing with the Chippendales at the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino.

"'DWTS' was a completely different animal," Ziering said. "There's five or six things you have to think about with every beat."

Ziering said his wife was supportive and encouraged him to take the role when it was offered to him. Despite the flirty performances, and taking off his shirt in front of screaming female fans, Ziering says he takes it all with a grain of salt, and at the end of the day goes home to his family.

Even Ziering's "90210? co-stars are getting into the fun. The actor says Jennie Garth tweeted him that she plans to attend the show, while Jason Priestly and Luke Perry have both called to say they too plan to attend.

"I've got to get a call to Shannen [Doherty] and Gabrielle [Carteris] and the other girls…maybe I can get them out here to have a party," he said.

Ziering will appear as a guest headliner on the show Thursdays through Saturdays until June 30.
