Sometimes the best art can come out of heartache. This seems to be the case for Britney Spears, who told Ryan Seacrest today that her upcoming album, out in December, all comes from the pain of a breakup.
“It’s the most personal album I’ve ever done,” she said today during “On Air with Ryan Seacrest.” “After having a huge breakup this year, I had a lot to say in the studio so it was nice to have a therapy like that and to be able to share that with my fans.”
The breakup Spears, 31, is talking about is her split from former fiance Jason Trawick that happened at the beginning of this year. The two had been together since 2009 and Trawick proposed in December of 2011.
Even though she may have written the new album while trying to forget an ex, Spears told Seacrest that singing those songs in the future will actually speed up her healing process.
“[It] really kind of helps you get over the breakup really easy ’cause you sing about it and have to think about it every night,” she said. ”But then you’re like, ‘It’s O.K.! I’m performing now so it’s totally fine.’ You just get over it and it’s like a therapeutic way to get over it.”
Currently, Spears is riding high with her song “Work B–ch” topping the charts, along with her lucrative two-year contract she just signed with Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, beginning Dec. 27.
