Los Angeles is a city known both for its headache-inducing gridlock and as the home of the entertainment industry.  One comedian looking for a viral hit had the canny idea to combine both.

TJ Smith, a comedian with his own YouTube channel and Tumblr, is known for his “Highway Singalong” videos in which he cruises down the 101 Freeway blasting feel-good music to get drivers out of their traffic misery.

His latest rendition is a retro flashback in which he’s cruising while singing along to “Build Me Up Buttercup” by The Foundations.

Even though the song is more than 30 years old, it’s still a classic as proven by the fact that Smith, who could not be reached today by ABCNews.com, managed to get the whole highway singing along.

Smith’s nearly four-minute YouTube video, shot by his friend, shows his fellow drivers in a state of everything from shock to glee to singing along when they hear Smith belting it out.
