One Direction has made Billboard chart history, debuting their third album in a row number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 album chart.

The British pop band's latest release "Midnight Memories" took the top spot on the chart, selling 546,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

According to Billboard, One Direction is the first group since 1967 to have their first three albums debut at number one. The other group that made that happen was The Monkees.

The album has already gone to number one in dozens of other countries. The band reacted to the success of their album in an interview with "Good Morning America" last week.

"I think it's such a hard thing to comprehend really," Louis Tomlinson said of the immediate success of their third album. "We had a bit of a toast and celebration. It's such a hard thing to get your head around. It's a testament to how amazing our fans are, you know?"

The group shared their excitement for the history making album on Twitter:

One Direction recently announced their North American tour. The group has seen an overwhelming response and is adding shows to the tour in places including Chicago and New Jersey.
