In his younger days, Colin Farrell earned quite the reputation as a ladies man, but the actor admits that he hasn't always been confident in the bedroom.

"I made love to a woman about two and a half years after I got clean, and it was one of the most terrifying moments of my life," the 37-year-old actor told Elle's March issue. "It was in the afternoon. The windows and the curtains were open. It was lovely, and, to be crass, it wasn't f***ing. She was very gentle. But it was terrifying. Because I was just used to drunkenness and dark rooms and clubs and toilets and wherever."

Sober since 2005, Farrell said he was also worried, "I wouldn't be able to talk, full stop. I hadn't uttered a word sober in about 15 years."

The unmarried father of two seems to have done just fine, both off and on screen, where he's currently starring in the epic romance "Winter's Tale."

As for his own real-life romance, Farrell said he "very much" believes in monogamy but he hasn't yet found the right woman.

"I have been ?monogamous in relationships," Farrell told Elle. "But I'm not in a relationship now. So they haven't worked."

"But I certainly do believe in monogamy," Farrell added. "I don't believe that it's for everyone. I don't believe that marriage is for everyone. So much of life is begging to be chosen how it wants to be lived. Much more than most of us realize."
