With four flicks of the wrist, T.J. Oshie, a forward for the St. Louis Blues and member of the Olympic men's hockey team, captivated Americans by giving the U.S. a thrilling 3-2 victory over Russia in their preliminary round matchup Saturday.
Long before Americans were screaming, "Oshie, Oshie, Oshie," however, the 27-year-old had already captured the heart of one woman, his fiancé, Lauren Cosgrove.
As Oshie's name trended on Twitter in the 48 hours after his game-clinching goals in Saturday's game, the Internet also went crazy with photos of Cosgrove, a recent University of Minnesota graduate.
"It's so surreal," said Cosgrove, to whom Oshie proposed on their third anniversary, just before he left for Sochi.
Cosgrove stayed home in Minnesota as she is 32 weeks pregnant with the couple's first child, a girl, but says the distance did not make watching her fiancé step up in the shoot-out any less suspenseful.
"My heart is still racing from the game, to be honest," she said. "It was pretty incredible to watch."
Oshie, a Minnesota native, got a call from his fiancé as soon as he skated off the ice.
"I told him how proud I was of him and that I couldn't wait to see him and for him to get home and celebrate," Cosgrove said. "And that me and his baby girl, we're proud of him."
Cosgrove told ABC News that after the thrilling game, Oshie was happy to hear from her, but really had one thing on his mind, hunger and, specifically, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
