With Super Bowl XLVIII just hours away, everyone is pumped for the big game.

With excitement comes the pride of old football glory stories, except for maybe Stephen Colbert.

The "Colbert Report" host, 49, told ABC News on Friday night at the Shape Magazine/Men's Fitness party that his high school football days didn't last very long.

"I was a cornerback for one day," he said at the party sponsored by Tabasco. "All of my buddies were on the team and they said, 'You should come out.' I said, 'Sure, that would be a lot of fun.'"

Colbert was a bit mistaken.

"I showed up for one two-a-day, two practices in one day, in August in Charleston, South Carolina," he said laughing. "I threw up and passed out. At the end of it, I said, 'Coach, I want to thank you for the opportunity,' and that was it."

Even without a football career, things seem to have turned out just fine for the Peabody and Grammy award winner.
