Oprah Winfrey is one of the richest women on the planet, so it's not surprising that she gets hit up for money all the time.

What is surprising is the amount people ask for. As Winfrey revealed, it's based less on what they need and more on what they think she's worth.

"This is what I find, people ask for money based on what they think you have," Winfrey told a TMZ cameraman Sunday. "So when I was making $22,000 a year, people always needed $50. Then when I moved to $50,000 a year, people always needed $500."

"Now nobody needs anything less than $50,000," Winfrey said with a smile.

Last year, Winfrey regained her spot for the fifth time as the most powerful celebrity in Forbes' 14th annual list of 100 power players. Winfrey placed second for the two years prior, but her cable network OWN and a reported $77 million in earnings put her back on top.
