Alexa Ray Joel on Plastic Surgery Rumors: 'I Don't Even Dye My Hair'

ABC News' Natasha Singh reports:

Alexa Ray Joel is putting the plastic surgery rumors to rest.

In an interview with "Good Morning America"'s Amy Robach, Joel denied the rumors that circulated when she debuted a dramatic new look last month.

"I can tell you right that now the only thing that is true, which I actually have been open about, was that I did have rhinoplasty surgery done three to four years ago," she said. "But, no I haven't had anything else done, I don't even dye my hair."

She addressed why her new look may strike some as being so different by saying that she simply grew up.

"It was interesting because they were comparing pictures of me from when I was 16 to 18, to recent pictures of me now and I'm 28 years old. So of course I look different," she said.

Joel, the daughter of singer Billy Joel and supermodel Christie Brinkley, has her own budding music career. During a performance at the Carlyle Hotel in New York City last month, she collapsed onstage.

"I had been working a few weeks straight, and I was tired. And it just happened, you know, it happens to the best of us," she said, adding that she was now "doing great.

"I wanted to end with a bang, but it wasn't quite the bang I intended but a little bit of drama on stage … it was just a case of sheer exhaustion," Joel said.

Singing is in Joel's blood, and she always sang as a child.

"I mean I didn't know that I wasn't the star growing up," she said. "I thought that that I was the star because my mom was always videotaping me, my father was always accompanying me at the piano while I would sing."

Growing up with her superstar parents, she's used to being in the spotlight, but finding that confidence wasn't easy.

"I was a very sensitive painfully shy young woman, and I probably wasn't ready for the limelight," she said. "Even in my late teens I was sort of a little bit of a shell of a girl and a late bloomer and I think it did hit me really hard … but I'm really grateful for it-I think that anything that you go through in your life where there's obstacles, you learn to overcome them and it just builds character and it also makes for really good songs."
