Kate Hudson was as "shocked as anyone" when former boyfriends Lance Armstrong and Alex Rodriguez came clean about using performance-enhancing drugs.

Opening up about her exes' doping scandals for the first time, Hudson, 35, told the July issue of InStyle, "I was as shocked as anyone. But I personally think that you make the choices you make and you should reap the consequences."

Hudson dated Armstrong in 2008 and Rodriguez in 2009.

"People have a right to [feel betrayed]," Hudson said. "Lance and Alex are phenomenal athletes who have made some bad choices and let a lot of people down. It's a decision they made for themselves and they've got to loathe it."

Kate Hudson on Her Mom's Advice: 'Men Come and Go'

As for her own media scrutiny over plastic surgery and more, the mother of two told InStyle: "I just look at the paparazzi and mentally cut their heads off. The negativity is just so vast. Will everybody stop being so damned judgmental? If someone wants to go get butt implants, then sure, go get butt implants. The real question is, How do they treat the person next to them? Are they a-holes or are they awesome?"

One person high in Hudson's esteem: her famous mother, Goldie Hawn.

"My mom was a trailblazer. She was one of the first women after Katherine Hepburn to produce her own films," Hudson told the magazine. "She had this extremely fascinating public image, but behind the scenes there was a real, persevering strength - wanting to get things done, fighting for what she believed in, and being successful with it."

Hudson has her own list of things she'd still like to get done, including acting on Broadway.

"No question about it - I'd love to do it at some point in my life," she said in the interview. "I'm always looking. I'd love to do a musical. It'd be nice to do an original but if a revival came along, I'd do that too. I'd also do something more dramatic, if it felt like the right kind of project."
