She may be an A-list movie star, but Keira Knightley gives herself an annual allowance of only $50,000 to live on.

"It's something around that," the 29-year-old British actress told Glamour's July issue. "I mean, if I want or need something that goes over that, I get it, but, yes, around that."

But why so little to begin with?

"I think living an [expensive] lifestyle means you can't hang out with people who don't live that lifestyle," Knightley told the magazine. "It alienates you. Some of my best, most hilarious times have been in the least luxurious places."

Knightley has already shown the world her thrifty side, when she repurposed a favorite Chanel dress to wear for her wedding to rocker James Righton last year.

"Karl [Lagerfeld] very kindly designed me a jacket to go with it. I'd worn the dress lots. It was my something old. And I liked not making a big deal about it," she told The Telegraph newspaper earlier this year. "I just wanted to be in something I had had a great time in, something I would have a great time in again."

Sadly, the dress may have been ruined after a friend splattered wine all over it.

"It's quite impressively splattered," Knightley told The Telegraph, before shrugging it off. "But, hey, a good night is a good night and when a dress has had its time, maybe it's had its time. I'm pretty sure I can get it out but, if I can't, I'm happy with the memory of a good night and the story of how the dress got destroyed."
