The MTV Video Music Awards doesn’t typically pay tribute to late celebrities.

That changed on Sunday night, when the awards show remembered Robin Williams.

Just before a commercial break more than halfway through the show, the broadcast paused for a brief photo montage set to Coldplay’s “A Sky Full of Stars.”

Williams died earlier this month of an apparent suicide at the age of 63. He will also be honored by Billy Crystal during the Emmys on Monday night.

“We felt we needed to do something powerful and memorable,” said Emmys producer Don Mischer. “Billy seemed like the perfect choice.”
