Kids, don’t try this at home.

After a practice session in his New York City apartment, trombonist David Finlayson decided to try something for fun. He attached a GoPro video camera to the slide of his brass Yamaha Xeno trombone and began to play.

A year and a half later, a colleague asked Finlayson for permission to post the video clip online. What followed was an online  explosion on YouTube, Facebook and other social outlets — including a million hits on Finlayson’s personal website.

“I’ve gotten emails from all over the world about it,” said Finlayson. “It’s been crazy. It’s gone viral, as they say. The traffic has been enormous.”

A professional trombonist for the New York Philharmonic and a photographer, Finlayson said he never expected his minute-and-a-half video to become so popular.

GoPro cameras – which have jumped in popularity since the company debut in 2002 — are often used by adrenaline junkies to show their exploits skydiving, surfing or ripping down a mountainside on a bike.

“They’re everywhere, these little cameras — but not at the end of a trombone,” said the 58-year-old Finlayson.

So how’d he do it?

Finlayson’s trombone is custom made, outfitted with a carbon fiber slide instead of a traditional brass slide, which can be easily dented if something is clamped to it.  Finlayson eventually decided to attach his GoPro to the carbon fiber slide with an attachment typically used for bicycle handlebars. He set the camera lens to its widest angle of view, and started recording as he played Trombone Etude, a 19th century piece by Joannes Rochut.

“The setting would distort my face as much as possible. It looks like my face is about to explode,” said Finlayson. “Some people have commented on my eyebrows. I’ve really enjoyed reading the comments. That’s been kind of fun.”

Although he’s enjoyed the feedback from the video, titled “Trombone Silliness,” he says he didn’t produce it for commercial reasons.

“The world needs something to smile about right now. Things have been so tense on the news with fiscal problems and people gunning each other down,” said Finlayson. “I hope it spurs an idea for someone to do something that no one else has ever done before.”

After Justin Bieber teased on Twitter that he’d be hosting and performing on an upcoming episode of “Saturday Night Live,” a source has confirmed to ABCNews.com that the Biebs will indeed be doing double duty on the show’s Feb. 9 installment.

Bieber was a musical guest on “Saturday Night Live” in April 2010, and since then, he’s appeared in some sketches and in a digital short.

Bruno Mars is the most recent musician to have pulled double duty as host and performer on the show.  Others who’ve done it include Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift, Britney Spears, Garth Brooks, Mick Jagger and Jennifer Lopez.

Though he’s only 18, Justin won’t be the youngest person ever to have simultaneously hosted and performed a musical number on “SNL.”   The record-holder there is  Spears, who was 18 years and 163 days old when she did it on May 13, 2000.  Justin will be 18 years and 338 days old when he does it, since he turns 19 on March 1.

“Breaking Bad” actor Steven Michael Quezada wants to make a difference in the state that he and his show call home.

The 49-year-old actor who plays Agent Steven Gomez on the AMC drama is seeking a spot on the Albuquerque, N.M. school board. Quezada is running unopposed to represent a newly created district on the city’s growing West Side.

Quezada has lived in Albuquerque all his life, where “Breaking Bad” has filmed for the past six years. Quezada also attended public schools in the district he hopes to represent.

“This is my home and where I want to work,” Quezada told ABCNews.com. “We’re hurting out here and we need people who can go out and engage our community. I think it’s my destiny to do that.”

Quezada says his priorities would be to shrink class size, encourage more charter schools, and promote arts programs.

“I want to protect the performing and visual arts because they’re always the first to get cut. Art curriculum can be used as a way to educate,” he said.

Quezada has been working with Albuquerque kids since 1987 and three of his four children are enrolled in an Albuquerque public school.

Monica Armenta, the executive director of communications for Albuquerque Public Schools, said the district is excited Quezada has decided to run for the open seat.

“‘Breaking Bad’ is a coveted show in this part of New Mexico and is highly acclaimed,” said Armenta. “Whenever you have someone that high profiled really interested in learning about education, it’s great.”

Many “Breaking Bad” cast members, including Bryan Cranston, who has won four Emmys for his role as a meth maker, have donated their time and money to improving Albuquerque.

“Bryan [Cranston] has raised money for education, wounded warriors and has engaged the community,” said Quezada.

But, none of the cast or crew have made the commitment that Quezada is about to take on. Albuquerque Public Schools have 89,000 students and 12,000 employees. According to Quezada, Albuquerque schools have a dropout rate close to 40 percent.

“I believe I’m in a position to help kids and my community. Education is the best way to ensure our future,” said Quezada.

Quezada hopes to serve a two-year term on the school board and says he’s open to running for other local and state positions in the future.

“Teen Mom” star Farrah Abraham had a dilemma. To wax or not to wax? But the decision didn’t involve her body hair — she was talking about her 3-year-old daughter.

In a blog on Sulia.com, the 20-year-old MTV star recounted her decision to wax her toddler Sophia’s unibrow.

“Recently I could not ignore it, like I know I’ve seen madonna’s duaghter have a stand out uni brow, I remember when I was little I had a unibrow, but I couldn’t remember if there was an age limit, a rule!” she wrote.

Abraham, who has had a breast augmentation, a chin implant and rhinoplasty, finally decided the waxing had to be done.

“So here I am faced with a standout historical moment in motherhood when I can confirm to myself that my little, adorable,most cuddle-able cutie, baby girl has a Unibrow :( , I felt bad for her, and I started asking friends…. is this hair just going to fall out… is it just hormones at this age?, well the hair didn’t go away and others started saying it was here to stay.”

Abraham said she told her daughter about the unibrow and waxed her own brows to show Sophia how it’s done.

“So I tryed to wax her, the second a dab hit the Uni, she touch it with the towel she had in her hand, UHHH so now, wax was in the towel, and I yanked it back ASAP, but fuzz was not stuck to the wax stuck to her Uni, OMG moment, So now sophia was freaking out, so I had to act like it was a cool science project to get the wax off,” Abraham said.

Sophia then fell asleep, Abraham said, so she used tweezers to remove the rest.

“The next morning I showed her and told her how well she did and she didn’t even know, She was more intrigued now to be ok with upkeeping her non-unibrow. I could tell she was proud,” Abraham said, adding that she felt like a good mom.

Fans were outraged by the post.

“Farrah, this truly appalls me! What were you thinking waxing and tweezing a 3 year olds monobrow!!! How irresponsible,” one person commented. “Did you not recently say you think people should be natural? Yet at 3 you are already teaching Sophia to be self conscious. She’s 3…. A bit of extra hair doesn’t matter.”

“That poor baby….,” another wrote.

Requests for comment from MTV and Abraham were not immediately returned.

It’s been a year since Paula Deen announced she had type 2 diabetes, and that she was taking steps to improve her health.  Famous for her delicious, buttery dishes that aren’t exactly low-calories, Deen has managed to take the weight off by following basic diet principles like portion control and moderation.

Now, 36 pounds lighter, the celebrity chef shared some of her tips to maintaining her slimmed-down shape today on “Good Morning America.”

“I feel great. I really, really do,” Deen said today. “When the doctor told me I had type 2 diabetes, I was devastated. I was shocked. It was not in my family. I loved my life. I didn’t want my life to change. I loved everything that I cooked. …[but] I found some things that work for me.”

1. Moderation, Not Deprivation

“Moderation, that nasty M-word. I had preached it for years on my show and I thought I was practicing it, but I wasn’t because I was eating two biscuits and I really wanted three. So that was my moderation,” Deen said.

Now, Deen has embraced moderation, but not deprivation, allowing herself to indulge occasionally in a small piece of buttery cake or her favorite fried chicken.

“I did not want to live the rest of my life without fried chicken,” Deen said on “GMA.”

Other dishes Deen is never giving up? Her peanut butter pie, fried green tomatoes and fried pies, she told Woman’s Day magazine.

“I make these wonderful fried pies that just make you slap your granny into next week. [My son] bobby tried to make a lighter version of my fried pies by baking them. I said, ‘Son, don’t even try it. Some things are just best left alone,” Deen said in an interview in the magazine’s February issue.

2. Rethink Your Plate

“I’ve reconstructed the architecture of my plate,” she said today on “GMA.”

Instead of her signature Southern fried chicken with a whole potato and creamy macaroni and cheese for dinner, Deen now makes healthier choices. Her daily dinner plate now consists of baked chicken, collard greens, and half of a potato without sour cream or fatty toppings.

Her son Bobby Deen’s baked chicken with Dijon and lime and her collard greens are some of her favorite healthy dinner recipes that still have the flavor she craves.

3. Portion Control

Deen has cut down her portions sizes to shed those 36 pounds. Instead of dishing out a ton of heavy starches, she aims to fill up on vegetables instead and keeps meat portions to the size of her fist.

4. No Diet Food!

“I do not use diet mayonnaise. I do not use diet cream cheese, nor sour cream,” Deen said proudly today. “I would rather use the real stuff and have my food taste good and just have a little bit of it than having a whole lot of diet food.”

Her youngest son, Bobby Dean, makes a lighter version of her signature Ooey Gooey Butter Layer Cake. This version has 665 fewer calories, 90g less carbohydrates and 71g less sugar than the original, according to their website, but still has the same flavor.

5. Don’t Eat Carbs Alone

Instead of eating what Dean thought was a healthy fruit breakfast smoothie, Deen says she now has something that has protein in it too, like a small amount of peanut butter with fruit to help slow a blood-sugar spike.

6. Eat Slowly and Enjoy It

Deen credits taking breaks between bites with helping her stay trim. “Putting my fork down and having a conversation has been a huge help,” she told Woman’s Day. “It takes 20 minutes for your stomach to tell your brain that you’re full.”

More than 10 years have passed since veteran music star David Bowie released an album, but today he has come out of the woodwork with the new single “Where Are We Now?” It hit the iTunes charts at No. 5,  12 hours after its release, right behind  Taylor Swift’s “I knew You Were Trouble” and Will.i.am featuring  Britney Spears “Scream and Shout.”

Bowie, who first gained recognition in the late ’60s, released the new single on iTunes to coincide with his 66th birthday. His new album,”The Next Day,” is slated for release in March.

Bowie has not performed since 2006 and has rarely been seen in public since then. He turned down the opportunity to appear at the Olympics Opening Ceremony last summer, despite a personal request from filmmaker Danny Boyle, leading to rumors of deteriorating health, which his representative denied.

 ”Where Are We Now?” was produced by Tony Visconti, with whom Bowie had worked before, although Bowie wrote the track and recorded it in New York, where he lives with his family. Tony Oursler directed the accompanying video.

Brooke Burke-Charvet, co-host of this weekend’s Miss America competition, says she was “very fortunate”  to have detected her cancer and is now cancer-free.

Burke-Charvet, appearing this morning on “Good Morning America” for the first time without wearing a scarf to hide her post-surgery scar, is thankful for her health while looking forward to a new season of “Dancing With the Stars” and a bright future with her family.

“It was shocking,” she said. “I never thought I’d hear the word cancer in relation to myself. The movie in my mind when I got my diagnosis was that I’m a mother, I’ve got four children and a family counting on me. And it’s a little bit scary to really hear that news, but I did my research and met with an incredible medical team.”

Burke-Charvet, 41, admits revealing her thyroid cancer diagnosis to her four children was difficult.

“All the children really handled it differently. I chose not to share it with the children too soon because I was waiting several months before I scheduled my surgery. My son actually said, ‘Is papa going to get it?’ In his mind, at 4-years-old, he doesn’t know what cancer means.

“My 6-year-old said ‘Mommy, I’m going to go with you, I’m going to hold your hand, I’m going to every appointment.’ My oldest daughter, it was really difficult for her when it was in the news, and her friends had to come to her and say ‘Oh we heard about your mom and we’re so sorry.’ You know, she cried, she wanted to know if I was OK, she made me promise her that nothing was going to happen.”

And fortunately for Burke-Charvet, she detected the cancer early on and was able to keep that promise to her oldest child.

“The message is really about preventative health,” she explained. “Because I had no symptoms, and generally with thyroid cancer, it’s very subtle symptoms. I went for a regular physical.

“Fortunately, I did a lot of research and I knew that the prognosis for thyroid cancer is really excellent. I knew I was going to be OK. But I was also very fortunate that I was responsible enough to do a regular physical and then take action.”

Burke-Charvet first revealed she had thyroid cancer on Nov. 8 in a YouTube video titled, “Cancer. Me?”

“I need to have thyroid surgery, have a thyroidectomy, which means that I’m going to have a nice big scar right here across my neck,” she said in the video. “It is taking me a couple of months to really wrap my head around this.”

However, not long after on Dec. 12, she got some much better news, letting her fans know she was cancer free on her blog.

“The thyroid cancer has been removed from my body and all my lymph nodes are clear. So I’m hoping that this is the end of the story … Thank God!,” she wrote.

And now the vivacious “DWTS” co-host is already back to work with new fitness  DVDs called “Brooke Burke Body: Sexy Abs and Brooke Burke Body: 30-Day Slim Down.”

“I’m back to work and I feel great,” Burke-Charvet said. “I never thought I’d be in New York talking fitness and recovering from this cancer scare. But it’s amazing.”

She will be hosting the Miss America competition with Chris Harrison live this Saturday, Jan. 12, at 9/8 central on ABC.

Katherine Webb, Miss Alabama 2012 and girlfriend of University of Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron, is enjoying the spotlight following a brief moment on camera during Monday night’s BCS National Championship game.

With Alabama leading Notre Dame 14-0 in the first quarter, ESPN commentator Brent Musburger chose to once again comment on a beautiful woman in the stands to keep the audience entertained. This time, it was Webb, and the audience certainly took notice.

“You see that lovely lady there, she does go to Auburn, but she’s also Miss Alabama and that’s AJ McCarron’s girlfriend,” he said. “You quarterbacks, you get all the good looking women.

“What a beautiful woman. Wow. If you’re a youngster in Alabama, start getting the football out and throw it around the back yard with pops!” he told viewers.

Fellow ESPN commentator Kirk Herbstreit quipped: “AJ’s doing some things right.”

ESPN issued an apology today, saying Musburger’s comments “went too far.”

“We always try to capture interesting story lines and the relationship between an Auburn grad who is Miss Alabama and the current Alabama quarterback certainly met that test,” ESPN said in a statement. “However, we apologize that the commentary in this instance went too far and Brent understands that.”

Musburger’s comments have made Webb, 23, an overnight sensation.

Since Monday night, Webb has landed over 100,000 additional Twitter followers, and shot to the top of Google trends.

As she was admired by the night’s ESPN commentators, Webb stood next to Dee Dee Bonner — her boyfriend’s mom.

Katherine’s mother, Leslie Webb, told ABCNews.com that her daughter’s newfound fame truly came as a surprise.

“I watched the whole thing!” she said “I was amazed at what was going on as soon as her picture came up on the screen our phones just lit up. We checked out her Twitter, and it was flooded within seconds. We were in awe of it.”

Leslie said that Katherine was unaware she was even on camera at the time, and didn’t realize it until she called her mother at half time — at which point she learned she’d become an instant online sensation.

Since Monday night’s impromptu ESPN feature, her mother says, designers now want Katherine to wear their clothes, and she said that none other than Donald Trump now wants to meet with Katherine and McCarron.

“It’s fun for it to happen to someone like that,” her mother said. “She’s a humble girl, she’s a really sweet girl, and the type of person that likes to make other people happy, puts others before herself, and to help little girls. She loves the lord and loves her life.”

Webb, who won Miss Alabama 2012, did not acknowledge the camera time on her Twitter feed, instead congratulating Alabama on their win. Many others, however, did not let the moment go unnoticed.

Donte Stallworth, wide receiver for the New England Patriots, soon tweeted, “And now ‘AJ McCarrons’ is trending number one right now…not because of his play but because of his ol lady…. And Brent Musburger.”

Yahoo! Sports writer Jeff Passan tweeted, “Sources: A.J. McCarron’s girlfriend to seek restraining order from Brent Musburger at halftime.”

Webb’s publicist Dara Busch told ABCNews.com that she is currently traveling from Miami to Alabama and is unavailable for comment.

College football fans may remember a similar moment seven years ago when the camera lingered on a cheering Florida State student Jenn Sterger — she of the Brett Favre sexting scandal — and Musburger said, “1,500 red-blooded Americans just decided to apply to Florida State.”

On the off chance that you’ve been in a situation that left you wondering, what would Ryan Lochte do, you will soon have your answers and a reason to shout “Jeah!” – his signature catchphrase.

E! Entertainment announced Monday the network will launch a six-episode reality-TV series featuring the hunky swimmer that will debut in April.  The series will be titled, “What Would Ryan Lochte Do?”

Lochte, 28, is best known for his prowess in the pool. Lochte is an eleven-time Olympic medalist (Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012), five of them gold. Lochte’s swimming career took-off at the University of Florida under Olympic men’s swim team coach Greg Troy. He graduated in 2007. Lochte continues to train with Troy and still lives in Gainesville, Fla.

Lochte has recently dabbled in entertainment and has not been shy about his celebrity status. Lochte appeared as an E! News correspondent during Fashion Week and has done cameos on “90210″ and “30 Rock.” He also appeared in a Nissan Sentra commercial.

Lochte admitted he was not a fan of upcoming Academy Awards host Seth MacFarlane’s impression of him on “Saturday Night Live,” telling the Associated Press, “I’m just going to let it be and just move forward, but anytime Seth wants to race me in a pool, I’ll be more than happy to.”

He also infamously raced Prince Harry in an early morning swim last summer in Las Vegas.

During the Television Critics Association press tour, E! president Suzanne Kolb revealed that the series will feature the swimmer’s partying and training as he prepares for the 2016 Rio Olympics. Viewers also will catch a glimpse of Lochte building his fashion line, making media appearance and spending time with family and friends, all while searching for the “right gal.”

“He is an incredibly endearing personality who is sexy, entertaining and fun,” Kolb said in a statement. “Watching this show, I believe people will fall into three categories: they want to be him, sleep with him or mother him.”

Lochte tweeted his enthusiasm Monday night to his 1 million-plus followers, “Excited for you all to see! RT @ENews: Ryan Lochte Reality Series Coming to E!: So What Would Ryan Lochte Do?”

The elusive giant squid has never been captured on film. Until now.

Discovery and Japanese partner NHK captured the images of the squid deep beneath the Pacific Ocean during a mission that included more than 400 hours in the abyss, more than 100 sub dives, some at depths greater than 3,000 feet, and a crew of scientists, engineers, technicians and submarine pilots.

“This latest production, four years in the making, is a world-first achievement for television, and I’m excited to share it,” Eileen O’Neill, group President of Discovery and TLC Networks, said in a news release Monday.

The giant squid has for years been at the center of numerous fantastic tales of the sea.

Nearly as long as a school bus and weighing up to a ton, the squid’s eight arms and two tentacles are covered in barbed suction cups, which it uses to force prey – fish, other squid, possibly small whales – into its razor-sharp beak.

The footage will be aired for the first time in the Discovery Channel’s “Monster Squid: The Giant is Real.” The program premieres on Discovery at 8 p.m. ET Jan. 27, and will serve as the season finale for Discovery’s “Curiosity” series.

NHK will air its special on the giant squid Jan. 13.
