1983: Bombing Aftermath in London - Harrods Reopens

Harrods department store in London reopened after the Dec. 17, 1983 IRA car bombing.

1986 Gorbachev Lifts Soviet Dissidents' Exile

Mikhail Gorbachev allows Andrei Sakharov and his wife, Elena Bonner, to return to Moscow. Sakharov opposed the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and was a vocal critic of the government.  The couple was sentenced to internal exile in 1980, and lived in the city Gorky.

1998 Bill Clinton Impeachment

From the South Lawn, Vice President Al Gore stated that the House vote to impeach President Clinton "disregarded the plain wishes and good will of the American people and the plain meaning of our Constitution."  The House of Representatives charged Clinton with lying under oath and obstructing justice.  In January of 1998, when news of President Clinton's affair with 21-year-old intern Monica Lewinsky broke, Clinton had initially denied any sexual relations with her.
