Stephen Colbert's Touching Tribute to His Mother Stephen Colbert returned to his Comedy Central show, "The Colbert Report," last night after a short time away. The 49-year-old host broke from character for a moment to pay tribute to his late mother. "I've been away from the report for a week because one week ago today my mother, Lorna Tuck Colbert, died and I want to thank everybody who offered their thoughts and prayers," he said as the show began. He then went on to share his favorite anecdotes of his mother, who he said was a huge fan of the show. "She had trained to be an actress when she was younger and she would teach us how to do stage falls by pretending to faint on the kitchen floor. She was fun. … And I know it may sound greedy to want more days with a person who lived so long, but the fact that my mother was 92 does not diminish, it only magnifies, the enormity of the room whose door has now quietly shut." Colbert said his mother's greatest gift to him was teaching him to love life without bitterness and be grateful every day.
