Engagement Photo Rescue

Talk about taking the plunge way before your actual wedding day. On Saturday, Becki Salmon, 30, and her fiancé, Matt Werner, 33, were striking poses for the perfect engagement photo in front of a creek in Pennsylvania. It was picture perfect until the photographer saw a boy drowning in the background. Salmon, a trained lifeguard and paramedic, wasted no time and jumped right into the creek, saving the boy's life.

Bald Eagle Escapes

An American bald eagle is on the loose tonight, and apparently it's taking this whole Independence Day thing seriously. The eagle flew the coop at a zoo in Baton Rouge, La., escaping through a mesh fence, leaving his stunned companion behind. The search is on for the missing eagle. Zookeepers are asking for help on its Facebook page. They have already received more than 30 calls today about possible sightings.

O Say Can You See …

Taking a break from Washington on this Fourth of July, one of President Obama's top aides was spotted at a baseball game carrying a tune. Earlier today, Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin E. Dempsey belted out the national anthem at the Nationals-Brewers game backed up by an army chorus. Hats off to Dempsey.
